3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 dantheman278 (1316) - SCOTLAND - SEP 1, 2012
Bottle at home. Slightly murky orange amber, thin bubbly white head. Lovely big fruit bowl NZ hop nose, mango, candied orange, definite floral vinous Motueka thing. Nice sweet juicy punchy fruit front, transitions to a flinty chalky dusty dryness. Soft floral bitter finish. A bit flat, seems to be a problem with a lot of beers from the new brewery. But still tasty.

Bottle from Kernel Brewery. Colour is soft golden amber, touch cloudy, big white head. Nose is strong citrous, lemon, grapefruit, tangerine, piney. Taste is grapefruit, lemon citrous, touch grassy malt, pine and crisp bitterness. Has enough balance between softer fruit and piney bitter minerally notes.

Light caramel, citrus and melon. Light sweet and bitter with a smooth mouth feel. OK, but nothing great.

50cl bottle at the brewery. It pours a mostly clear golden colour with a small white head. Short lived foam. Aroma is bitter hops and grass. Taste is moderately bitter with grapefruit, grass and citrus. Light bodied with nice carbonation. Crispy and refreshing. Maybe a bit heavy on hops for an APA.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; great aroma of grass & hope when I popped the cap off, pours a hazy yellow amber. Tastes of citrus with a high level of bitterness quite dry nice.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 jamestulloch (476) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - AUG 14, 2012
UPDATED: NOV 17, 2012 Aroma: Kiwi, passionfruit, grass and muted citrus notes.
Appearance: Typical Kernel murkiness - deep orange body with a small, white head that gradually fades. Decent lacing.
Taste: Lychee and freshly cut grass. Caramel and slightly earthy. Dusty, dry bitter finish.
Palate: Medium to full body with a slippery, almost chewable mouthfeel. Very soft carbonation.
Overall: Once again, Kernel delivers another hoppy classic. Would love to know what the three ’CCC’ hops are...

Thanks kiwianer for sharing...my first beer from The Kernel.
Pours a hazy honey color with smallish off white head. Smells of tropical fruit, yeast, some bitterness. Taste is bright fruit, some tartness, citrus hops create lasting dryness and bitterness. Light body and nicely carbonated.

Probably my favourite of the lighter Kernel beers I’ve tried. Less assertively hopped than the others. Quite a gentle drink with a lemon taste.
