Bottle from a trade with madmitch76. Pours clear golden with a solid creamy white head. Aroma of floral and fruity hops. Thin palate, with a weak malty base, outshined by the dry and light bitter hops, weak astringent in the finish, dry mouthfeel, good one.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Osprey87 (531) - London via, WALES - MAR 20, 2013
Feb 2013 – coldish bottle. 5.6%, mainly simcoe with motueka, topaz and centennial. My first impression is that this is very different to any other kernel beer I’ve had so far. Much more malty, which brings a sweetness to it and offsets the hops so that they are not so in your face. It’s like a more hoppy version of a traditional British IPA. I’m not sure that I like it that much though – unfortunately it falls somewhere between the two IPA styles without delivering the best of either. I think that there is potential there, but this doesn’t deliver.

Bottle @ The Kernel. The pour’s orange amber with a small head. Slightly hazy. The nose is orange peel, general citrus. Nose of sprucy hops and coniferous woodland. Nice, playful sweetness. some fruit by the foot candy and bubblegum. The taste is quite woody. Notes of pine cone and tree bark. Resinous hop bitterness. These flavors are complimented by sweet orange marmalade and lemon cake. Slightly mineral chalkiness on the finish. Fine carbonation, medium body. Smooth, crisp stuff. Overall, another nice hoppy number from the Kernel.
