Bottle @ The Kernel. Many thanks to Paul for providing this seldom-seen Kernel rarity! The pour’s deep brown with a tiny head. The nose is deep, rich roasted chocolate, wood, light marmite and umami aromas. The taste is much the same. Mild smoke, roasted malts. Rich chocolate. Smooth finish. Medium body. Overall, solid stuff.

UPDATED: DEC 16, 2012 Bottle tried at The Kernel, London. Much better than the first bottle I tried (see rating below). This bottle had proper smoked malts, some dark bread, zero tang. Well balanced and super drinkable. (3.9)
Bottle at home in London. Pours rich brown with a strong, creamy beige cap. Nose holds mild smokey malts, some tangy berries, hints of dark sugar. Medium sweet flavor with restrained smokiness, some light char, notes of tangy blackberries. Medium bodied with average, massaging carbonation. Lightly drying to finish, some mellow ash, light wood, tangy malts, light smoke. The beer seems to have taken on a tangy edge, which I’m pretty sure is unintentional. Still some good aspects here, though. (3.5)

24th February 2012 A bottle opened by Nate during his leaving weekend bash. Nate has stated money changed hands for this beer so comfortable to rate this now. Made with lager yeast. Cloudy dark brown beer, big pale cream head. Smooth palate, a little soft. Tangy fruits, a little smoke. Smooth finish. Delightful tangy fruity, mildly smoked beer.

Keg at the Brewery Sat 25th February 2012 at Nates leaving do Pours very dark brown with a large beige head. Touch fruity and a little tangy, there is plenty of chocolate and coffee swishing about but it isn’t too sweet and there is a little smokiness and even a little bit of brine in here to add a dab of complexity to what was already a good beer in my book. I liked this and returned again for a top up! A7 A4 T9 P4 Ov15 3.9
