COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Keg & Bottle.
Inspired by an ancient Mayan recipe, Ilkley Brewery has created an extraordinary Stout. It is velvety smooth, bittersweet, and has a subtle smoky fire in its belly. The Mayan is a Chipotle Chocolate Stout, dare you take it on?

Keg at London Fields. Very dark brown, small scummy head. Aroma is sweet banana, liquorice, coffee. Has that sweet estery aroma that some strong porters have, which instantly puts me off. Body is light, smooth, low carbonation. Taste is coffee, light chili which builds to a nice level over time. The flavour makes up for the dodgy aroma and lack of body.

Draught keg at Queens Head Acton St. Wow, what an aroma! Smells like hot choc made with quality dark Belgian chocolate flakes. Smooth, sweet choc flavour with the chilli coming through in a well-balanced but definitely present way at the end. Really enjoyable.

Bottle. Thin mocha head. Black body. Chocolate, perfume, Turkish Delight. Astringent with some sweet notes. Dry finish. None of this supposed chipotle spice detectable.

Bottle from York Beer and Wine. This extremely dark brown beer pours with a rapidly disappearing tan head. It has a very rich milk chocolate flavour, a smooth creamy mouthfeel followed by a pretty hot (but not overly so) chilli finish. Excellent!

Black with a thin tab head. Aroma is dark chocolate with hints of coffee. Flavor is rich, dark chocolate with a strong smoked chili aftertaste. Makes it finish a bit earthy. Wife: 4

On tap at Finnegan’s during trivia. Dark, oily black pour. Aroma is rich of dark cocoa, chocolate syrup. Nice red pepper spice to complement rich liquid dark chocolate. Slightly syrupy, full body. Really good.

Keg from The Crowd of Favours, Leeds. A dark stout like beer with a thin off white head. Aroma of chocomilk, taste is overpowering chocolate with a hint of chilli creeping in. Chocolate tastes artificial masking the otherwise decent malt below. A sweet stout with a reasonable bite, one is enough.
