Sour Altbier. This is our interpretation of a traditional German sour Altbier, known as "Münsterländer Altbier".

Should be drunk on the warmer side. A beautiful beer, with fine bubbles rising into lace. The flavors are subtle but balanced and robust, like a whole wheat sourdough.

Many thanks for this bottle to Erzengel. Pours a cloudy copper color with a thin off white head. Sour aroma. Oak notes in the flavor. Really nice.

New Beer Distributors, NYC 50cl ($5): Pours a brownish orange with a small white head. Aroma is lactic acid, a bit of caramel malt, a hint of vinegar. Taste is slightly sour. Sweet malt backbone. Relatively light body. Not very complex. Not bad though. Not your typical sour ale.

500 ml. bottle from Trappist Provisions. It pours a light amber/gold color with a dense, lasting white head. This looks really attractive in the glass. The aroma is lactic and fruity with some peach yogurt, stone fruit and mild notes of cooked vegetables. The flavor is mildly toasty with some stone fruit and more peach yogurt. It has a pretty light body bordering on watery. The finish is rather crisp and refreshing with low level of tartness and some nectarine skin. Not very complex, but refreshing nonetheless with a nice level of tartness.

A little sour on the finish. Malt is ok, finishes with some mash. I would rather just drink an altbier personally. Pours brown with ok head and lacing. Tap.

Bottle from the bierkoning. Clear copper brown pour with nice thick lacy white head. Aroma is toasty, malty notes with light sourdough, lemon, sour roasted notes, plain yoghurt, grassy. Taste is malty and just tart, very mild sourness, lactic, intensifies as it warms up, gets more lemony and even a tad gastric. Palate is light-med bodied, light carbonation, a bit watery on the finish. Not super tasty, but definitely interesting - I’m rather convinced that this beer shares a lot with beers from another time.

Jus pomme-raisin de welch avec des tons de pruneaux, tout ça sur un lit de sour mash.

Ta interpretacja Alta mi nie przypasowala. Piwo wogole bez piany, jasno bursztynowe nawet kwaskowosci sie specjalnie mocnej nie doszukalem. Delikatne lekkie i malo wyraziste. Zarowno jako Alt bier jak i szczegolnie sour Ale. Bardziej polecam belgijsklie prawdziwe Sour/Wild Ale
