Bottle. Redbrown with small pale brown quickly disappearing head. Aroma dried fruits, sweet malts, plumes, raisins. Taste sweet malts, sugar, dried fruits. Some hopps in the finish. A fine and wellcomposed quad, but not as intense and complex as the best belgian quads. Maybe a little more hopped than most quads.

Draft - Sweet stone fruit and yeasty. Cloudy copper brown with a decent beige head. Sweet stone fruit and yeasty malts. More like a Belgian string, with little dark fruit and sugars.

Transfer from BA review on 4-17-13- Poured from bottle into a chalice glass Appearance – The beer is poured a light brown color with a bit of an orange-amber hue. Upon pouring there is only a tiny white head which fades rather rapidly to leave only a trace level of lacing. Smell – The aroma is heaviest of dark fruits and malt with the dark fruit being mainly of a plum smell, but mixed with some raisin and fig. The malty aromas are a mix of caramel malt as well as a more bready smell. Rounding the nose out are notes of a yeasty smell mixed with spice of coriander and a strong boozy smell. Taste – The taste begins big in of a dark fruit sweetness of raisin and a bit of plum backed by some slightly bready maltiness. The fruit flavors from the start have a strong spiced and almost rum soaked flavor. Some other sweeter flavors of caramel meet the tongue soon after the initial taste with a yeasty taste joining as well. Lighter notes of banana seem to permeate their way to the tongue later in the taste along with more strong boozy tastes. The mainly spiced raisin alcohol taste takes the taste to its end where it leaves a nice warming fruity and boozy flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average to lower side in terms of creaminess and thickness with a carbonation level that is on the average side but seems to end on the low side at the end of a taste. This when mixed with the medium body make it a smooth feel on the tongue but due to the slight lower body a better overall feel may have been created via a thicker body. Overall- A rather tasty beer no doubt. It has big flavors of spiced rummy raisins but is complemented well by a variety of other nice flavors, which all meld together quite well. A nice sipping quad.

330ml bottle (bierkompass.de) - brewed at Scheldebruwerie
Dark orange, persistent head. Hard to pour clear, the floaties come over with very little warning quite early in the pour (it’s been settling for weeks or even months). Surprisingly fruity aroma, heavy sweet fruit esters earlier, but it gets more and more appley, and alas a bit acetoney. I had the cruddy glass, and it smells dirty and yeasty. Anna’s is a little bit more caramelly. Fairly simple in the palate, smoothish, gentle carbonation. Caramel first, but on swallowing, there’s a big heady rush. Anna’s is a little bit more bitter, and is way hotter too. Finish of hers is quite bitter and hoppy. Mine’s a bit smoother, hops and alcohol bitterness toned down, but the yeastiness is again there. A bit messy, and rather a simple overly-hot brew.

Bottle: The aroma consists of grapes, dark fruits, Belgian yeast, raisin, and light apple. It pour s a cloudy brownish-orange with a small two finger khaki head that has good retention before eventually fadign to a thin film outlined by a slightly thicker ring; There is some thin soapy rings left behind on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with moderate grape with some other fruits mixed in. There is some Belgian yeast and candi sugar in the middle. The finish has some light apple, raisin, and some light metallic notes. It’s medium-full bodied with mild carbonation. Overall, I like the beer, but I could really do without the metallic notes in the finish.
