3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20"Hollow" Every so often, a beer’s name speaks volumes--this is one such case. A bit brackish, thin off-white head, spotty lacing. Nose is a bit flat with some dark fruits and caramel malt--nothing "off" though. Flavor is similar. Thin for a 10% quad--gentle carbonation, lingering finish, some residual sweetness. While pleasant, this was ultimately unfulfilling and hollow--something a quad can’t be when you have St. Bernardus, Pannepot, and Rochefort on nearly every shelf, and Westy dominating the landscape.

11.2oz bottle. Poured an amberish color with an off white head. Aromas of caramel, some dark fruits and yeast. Tastes of dark fruits, caramel, bread, and all around fruitiness. Alcohol content well hidden.

Pours copper with a beige head. Aroma is caramel, alcohol, fruity yeast, apple and dark dried fruit. Flavour is caramel, fruity yeast, dried fruit and light grass.

February 2013. Bottle. Dried fruit, malt and sugary aromas. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Fig, plum and caramel flavors with a finish that is slightly too bitter.

Bottle from Vinspecialisten, Aalborg. Clear reddish amber with a lasting off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, dried fruit and yeasty. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Sweet finish with warming alcohol. 160413

Bottle from BW, cellared for 4-5 months. Pours a hazy amber with a marked amount of suspended particulates. Medium body with low levels of fine carbonation. Nose is figs & dark fruit, with some pine hops and booze. Ripe pit fruit, pine, cognac, oak and pears. Finish is fairly sweet with some pine hops providing a tad more bitterness than usually seen in a quad. Not precisely to style and on the hot side, but still enjoyable.

Pours ruby tinged brown into a tulip. Off-white head with little retention recedes to mottle surface. Sweet pit fruit and caramel aromas. Thin, dry and hot with roasted nuts and pit fruit front to back. Earthy bitter finish.

Appearance:Brown/amber with a light tan head.
Aroma: Yeasty with candied citrus notes.
Flavor: Nice malty sweetness up front with a small amount of dark dried fruit notes, finishes with a chemical-like bitterness.
Palate: Full bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: The harsh finish really detracts from an otherwise enjoyable quad.

On tap at Bottleworks, pours a hazy dark amber / mahogany with a large tan head. Aroma of rich dark dried fruits, with currants and raisins, and candied sugar. Flavour is similar with loads of dried dark fruits, candied sugar and Belgian yeast. Very complex and authentic to a traditional quad. Very rich, full of depth, without being too sweet. Excellent stuff.
