It should be indisputable evidence when a smoking gun is right in front of You. Maybe You can even smell the burning, toasty nose, see the easily recognizable head and taste the gun powdery finish. This is not the case.

33cl bottle: pours a mostly opaque dark mahogany with a spotty-lacing beige head. Has a dry, earthy smoky nose with a touch of dark chocolate and ash. Starts with average fullness and light effervescence with a mild sweetness and ashy smokiness along with some dark fruits and chocolate notes before a drier bittersweet finish. Could use a little more body and less ashy character, but is pretty unique nonetheless.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a creamy lacy tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, caramel, chocolate and light smoke. Flavor was sweet with chocolate, caramel, dark fruit, smoke and had some notes of toffee.

Serving: from bottle--purchased at Full Throttle Bottles. Aroma: light peach. Appearance: small, frothy, light-brown head with no lacing and fully diminishing longevity. Clear, cola-brown body. Taste: moderately sweet, over-ripe fruit initial flavor and finish with average duration. Palate: medium bodied with oily texture and lively carbonation. Overall: nothing special.

Pours dark brown with a beige head. Aroma has smoke. Full bodied. Flavor is smoke, dark malt, and something suggesting burnt powder. Fairly dry. Different.

Bottle from City Beer. Pours dark brown with a modest tan head and a treacle aroma. There is a hearty chocolate malt flavor with lots of smoke and a vanilla finish. Fairly complex.

From notes, consumed on 3/24/13. Bottle poured into a snifter. Pours a dark brownish black with about a third a finger of off-white head, mostly a ring around the glass. Aromas of dark fruit, booze. Tasting notes of cola, dark fruit, subtle smoke, light hops, light herbs and spices. Alcohol is well masked in the taste. Light-ish body with a dry finish.

Bottle. Pours a clear dark brown body under a small fizzy light brown head that vanished pretty quickly. The nose is burnt and roasty with some light smoke, licorice, caramel, and some noticeable alcohol. The flavor is a bit acrid and burnt tasting with a heavy caramel and toasty maltiness. There’s a little smoke in here, but it’s pretty light. A little too overly alcoholic for my tastes, this could use a little more body to help round out the mouthfeel and mitigate the alcohol flavor. Medium bodied with a slight stickiness up front and a warming finish. A little too much fizzy carbonation for me as well. Meh, not up my alley as far as Impy’s go.

Bottle at home. Hazy brown pour, tan head. Aroma of brown sugar, yeasty, bread, ripe fruits and some roasted malts with licorice. Flavor is slightly bitter, but mostly sweet brown sugary malts. This is not an imperial stout, more like a quadrupel. Decent body, heavy carbonation. A bit too sweet and yeasty for me. Very Belgian. Completely missing the gunpowder or the smoke. Still a decent beer, but not as expected.

Cańa en el Lupulo. 02-01-14. Color negro intenso con espuma oscura poco persistente. Aroma a maltas tostadas y cacao.
