Reddy amber colour with a thin head. Aroma is fruity hop with bitter taste. Consistency is a bit thin but I do like to drink this ale.

Good hoppy bitterness, which returns as a grapefriut/marmalade finish. Maybe itís the style, but Iíd prefer a bit more fat around the middle of this one. Nice, though.

Pours copper with a short lived head and some lacing. Aroma is malt, rye and a decent punch of citric hops. Flavour is mellow malt and rye grist wit some spice from the rye and a dry minerally character. Body is quite thin. Finish is dry and bittersweet. A nice beer for the price.

Bottled. A brown beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of caramel, bread, citrus fruits. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, bread, and citrusy hops, leading to a bitter finish.

For the price ($14 a six pack) packs plenty of flavor , i like the amount of rye as not over powering. bitter is nice quite balanced overall if not a huge amount of aroma but it is there.

This review may just be a touch biased as thereís a warm Westerly wafting through the window, I have a ham and three mustard sandwich with mayo and a glass of this beer. In terms of a time and place, lunchtime in this setting will take some beating. This beer is a gorgeous red amber with a skin of off-white head with a greenish tinge. Aromas of resinous hops, cracked amber malt, poached apricots and a dusting of nutmeg. Flavours of dehydrated papaya and apricot, grassy herbaceous malt and even a peppery note along with excellent puckering bitterness. A lengthy fruit finish that has really hit the spot. Pecans? Anyway, this is a winner in my book.

Of all the Spikeís range this to me is the most drinkable of the range. More balanced and not as bitter as the other two. No doubt it will also be the worst seller as we canít comprehend "Red Rye Ale" as a style.
