3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the brewery. Pours a hazy ruby amber, with a medium white head, reasonable retention and a nice lacing. The nose is redolent with spicy fruit notes, with some resin hops detectable and a hint of rum lurking in the background. There are lots of peppery and citrus hops to start, moving into a full-bodied malty mid-section, with lots of berry fruit. The finish is smooth and fruity, but with a hint of spice. Not as hoppy as most IPAs, but this is nonetheless a good effort.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught at the Local Taphouse, Darlinghurst. Very much an English IPA, hops are very low in the profile. Quite sweet with a stonefruit aroma and taste. Alcohol is apparent in the aftertaste.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
330ml bottle. Looks robust and inviting when poured as the frothy dense head settles on top of a honey coloured base. Aromatic hop and fruit aromas abound and certainly add to the overall enjoyment. Rolls around the mouth and settles frothily on the tongue as the alcohol content kicks in. Overall very good.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Hazy golden orange pour with a foamy off-white head that lasts a little while. Aroma is mildly spicy and has notes of caramel, grass and citrus. Flavour mirrors the aroma, with light, highly carbonated mouthfeel and a medium long bitter finish. Quite a good example of an English style IPA.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
More in the English style for an IPA. Fairly pale in colour and slightly hazy. Aroma has a quite distinct freshly cut grass thing going on with some tropical fruit there in the background, but I could’nt get past the grass aroma. A bit sweet on ther palate, I expected more bitterness for this style of beer. Guy at the brewery wasn’t to interested in telling me much about it and when pressed on other beers he wouldn’t give much away either, maybe not the chatty type.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draught at the brewpub. Biscuity malt on the palate, then spicy hops come through in the swallow, with caramal coming through. An IPA in the more traditional sense.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Dont think this would last too long on that voyage to india. Strangely the ipa is the sweetest and least bitter of the lot, though perhaps this has more to do with the yeast and malt used. Overripe rockmelon and caramel smell, no hops. Sweet caramel-butterscotch flavour, dried out with alcohol rather than hops. Slightly earthy low bitterness surfaces late. Also tried an oaked version of this which tasted like you might expect, ie had to tip it in the potplant.

Recently visited Goolwa and thought I’d give the Steam Exchange Brewery a go. I just bought a mixed pack of their beers. This beer I found to be fairly nice, it was easy drinking without being too light in taste.
