notalush (1971), Rawn-kawn-kohma, New York, USA Feb 12, 2007 EBF 2007 - had to try this one, both for the name and the unique recipe - reddish purple pour, with minimal head - very earthy, vegetable aroma, though not specifically of beets - the beets are there in the flavor, though, along with notes of other root veggies, like taro and parsnip - moderate sweetness ads on almost fruity aspect to the otherwise heavy vegetable flavor - I’m not a big fan of beet, and because they’re so apparent I didn’t enjoy this as much as I could have, but I have to give them credit for making something so unique. Lumpy (1530), Carrollton, Texas, USA Nov 8, 2006 Draft at The Tap. This was an odd one-I applaud the brewers at The Tap (and everywhere, for that matter) for having the guts to brew using very unorthodox ingredients. Unfortunately, for every successful experiment there are many failures. This one is most defiantly not going to be produced for mass consumption, but it was fun to try! Body is red like cranberry juice, nose is sweet and beety. Taste is exactly what you would expect-beets and malt sweetness. The beet flavor was not too much, like I had anticipated. A fun beer to try, but I don’t believe I would ever have it again. Once again, I tip my hat to the brewer who was creative enough to attempt this beer. Thaichile (570), 10aFly, New Jersey, USA Oct 19, 2006 Tap @ The Tap. Pours an incredible lighter red, not exactly blood, but pretty cool. Nose is sweet and fruity. Flavors are a light raspberry/cranberry,smidge of sweetness and quite good. No way you notice that this one is 8%. Nor can you taste the presence of beets, just their residual sugar. The alcohol is very well hidden. Be careful with this one, although this blood is everyones type, too many may raise the levels of blood fairly high but check it out!
