This deliciously smooth Imperial Stout is brewed with the finest English malt, three types of dark malts, and some smoked malt to give it a hint of smokiness. It has a rich, complex flavor accentuated with American Cascade hops. We aged it for three months to make it incredibly smooth and drinkable. It’s also named after the former Emperor of the United States (look it up!)

Pours black with a nice khaki head. Aroma is smoked malts and hop bitterness. Taste has a sweet vanilla like note to start but fades to some citrus like juiciness from the Cascade hops. Really smooth mouthfeel but still has a nice lively carb. Way more complex than I was expecting. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with thick beige head that lasts. The aroma is roast, chocolate, and smoke. Medium mouthfeel with a sweet roasted malt, chocolate, with nice sweet finish. Good.

8/04/2011: Haverhill Brewery Joshua Norton Imperial Stout... Aroma: Thin milk chocolate syrup with some roasted malt in the background. Appearance: Pours an opaque dark brown color with a purple hue; beige bubbles on the surface. Flavor: Sweet, but with a dark chocolate flavor infused with leafy, earthy, slightly citrusy bitterness (moderate level); roasted/charred malt; dry, roasty (think coffee) finish. Palate: Average body and mouthfeel. Overall: Drinks more like a "regular" stout, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing; goes down easy and keeps my interest piqued.

wasn’t to sure about this one, the label for one- is a bit creepy .. . pours a dark brown plum .. . light foam, only spots of lacing .. . mild roast, alcohol, and burnt ashy brandy .. . very transparent, didn’t like this .. . . i really should monitor my impulse control. colour me embarrassed.

Bottle from Santa in 2011 (consumed in August 2011). Pours a dark brown with reddish highlights and a small beige head. The aroma has roasted malts, hints of coffee, chocolate and a very mild smoky note. The flavor is big roasted malts to the point of being charred, coffee, dry bitterness with only hints of chocolate. Not enough body to this.

A bit watery but overall half way into the glass the body appears. Coffee notes, bitter, black appearance and low carbonation. Good but there exists better examples. Maybe I should take e the label advice and cellar it... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at Paul’s tasting. Pours near black with a beige head. Medium roasted malts, light grain and sweetness, with cocoa-like chocolate notes. Decent.

Bottle at Paul’s for the Blind Stout tasting. Pours a deep ruby tinged brown to black with a thin beige head. Cocoa, thin roast, chocolate, a bit on the thin side of medium. Lots of roast, cocoa, chocolate. Finishes up with a nice roast and cocoa. Decent.
