Tap @ Twisted Hop. Called a braggot at the brewery. Mainly a decent lager with honey flavor. Straw body, small white head. A bit prickly mouthfeel. Doesn’t really stand up to the brewery’s cask ales.

Draft. A hazy golden beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma has notes of malt as well as lighter notes of caramel and straw. The flavor is sweet with notes of mlat and straw as well as lighter notes of honey, leading to a dry finish.

totally unremarkable and bland stuff but drinkable enough. aroma is very faint, with honey of course but also some DMS and sweat. perhaps the honey has a sweaty characteristic. extremely light on in the mouth, and very dry, thankfully, with some interesting herbal notes in the finish. a lot better than beezneez but nowhere near dupont biere de miel.

Part of the tasting rack at the brewpub. Pours clear gold with a white head. I started with this one and along with the Biman lager, it wound up being the lightest one The Twisted Hop had to offer. Sweet honey aroma, with some hops on the nose as well. The flavor is sweet honey and hops, with some light straw notes. Starts sweet, and finishes with a little bitterness. Chewy and sticky. Well above average for a honey lager.

Part of the tasting tray shared with my lovely wife at the brewpub in Christchurch, enjoyed with the charcouterie plate and cheese plate. This was the lightest of the brews, clear straw gold with a lacy blanket of a head. Aroma is of sweet honeycomb. The honey is unmistakable! Lightly toasty malts with smooth sweet honey flavour. The sweetness is balanced by a refreshing tartness in the finish with a lingering bitterness that seems bigger than the 15 IBU’s listed on the menu. Really excellent, and along with Invercargill’s Wasp Honey Pilsner, it is the best honey beer I’ve had.

Draught at the Twisted Hop, Christchurch. Pours pale golden with a small white head. Aroma of pale malt, citrus and honey. The flavour is malt, citrus and honey. Thin and low bitterness. Less than inspiring.

Pours a hazy straw colour, slight hint of honeyed feet (sweet sulphar) on the nose. Light honey palate very clean and refreshing, clean finish...not my thing but basically ’does what it says on the tin’

(On tap) Clear, golden with a small, white head. Very distinct honey aroma without being really sweet. Light body with dry, malty accents and only a vague, underlying sweetness. The finish is dry but completely lacking bitterness. Very clean and quaffable. 14 IBU. 240108

I’ve had this one in New Zealand on my honeymoon. Visited the Twisted Hop and drank it there.
Enjoyable, but too light to be special.

Light delicate hhoney beer. Obvious lager character with almost CUB-like bitterness on the back palate. A bit bland for my liking as gthe honey character to just to mild.

This beer seems to have its good days and its bad days. On its bad days it can have a lot of suspended yeast particles and not pour with any head at all. On its good days however it is every inch the award winning brew it should be. I looked around at the honeydew drinkers and they seemed to be fairly new to beer or straying off the winelist for once. That is why I like this beer, it is a good beer to convert people who wander up to a bar in a brewery and ask for sav. I hate those people. Otherwise, a good summer beer but not really my preferred style.
