COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular.
Changed from 3.6% to 3.8% in 2004.
Previously brewed under contract at John Smiths at Tadcaster due to lack of capacity at Masham. Production returned to Masham in 2009.
This fine, golden coloured beer has a full flavour that lingers pleasantly on the palate. With a good bitter-sweet balance this beer has a robust hop character described as citrus and spicy. It’s a refreshing and very satisfying pint – noted for the aroma of its Fuggles and dry hopping strain Golding to add to its characteristic Theakston aroma.

I think I got a bad pint of this so I’m not sure how fair I’m being. Slightly hazy amber with a thin white head which quickly fades and no lacing. Aroma is slightly vinegary with some caramel. Taste of hops, some vinegar, slight malt, caramel and a bit sweet. Thin and watery.

Cask at Theakston Brewery, Masham, September 2013. Fully golden colour, clear, with a condensed white head. Sweet, a little malt and caramel aroma, mildly bitter and easy to drink, smooth, medium-bodied, shortish malty bitter finish.

A good bitter from Yorkshire, widely available on cask. A little on the sweet side for me, it is nevertheless nicely hopped and rather dry-tasting. Its golden colour looks well in the glass.

First rating: Medium offwhite creamy lasting head. Clear amber body once it’s settled. Light nutty caramel aroma with fruity notes. Dry-sweet caramelly perfumy taste with earthy leathery notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft, smooth mouthfeel. Dryish earthy caramelly aftertaste with prunes and leather notes. A bit odd, and not entirely harmonic. (0.568l cask at The Lowther, York.) 6,4,5,4,12 = 3.1

Second rating: Biggish creamy offwhite head with froth on top. Clear brown body. Light wooden earthy aroma with floral berry notes. Dry-sweet fruity caramelly taste with grape notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft, flat mouthfeel. Dryish fruity grape aftertaste with salty earthy notes. Nice, drinkable, perhaps a little earthy and musty. (0.568l cask at The Bay Hotel, Robin Hoods Bay.) 5,4,6,4,12=3.1

Boring bitter with a really thin, watery palate. Nothing going on here except a vague bit of hop in the finish. The sort of bitter I couldn't be any more bored of right now. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cask at Blackfriar, Glasgow. Really disappointing ale. Amber colour, but not much aroma, and the taste is just slightly sweet and kind of tastes watered down. Weak.

Spina @ Rose & Crown Ambrata con schiuma chiara, finissima, pannosa e persistente. All’apparenza davvero bella, in bocca risultà però un pò slavata, comunque più che bevibile...
