Cask at The Ship Tavern, London. Pours clear gold with a foamy, white head. Dry, crunchy toast malts on the nose with hints of dry leaves as well. Light sweet flavor, pretty dry with dull toast, wood, dry leaves, faint citrus and toasty sugar. Light bodied with average carbonation. Decent condition. Semi-dry to finish and lightly crisp, though also somewhat watery, with toasty and crunchy malts and dried leaves. Bland.

[Cask at the Old Board Inn, Hawes] Amber, thick white (sparkler) head. Fruity, with a hint of sulphur and some caramel malt in the slightly dusty, mildly bitter finish. A quite drinkable, if rather unexciting, standard bitter.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
First tasted this in the Winnock Hotel, Drymen in June 1987. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear orange amber in colour with a thick creamy off white head. Sparkling orange peel note in the short refreshing aroma. Thin resiny mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malt gives a juicy digestive biscuit base with tangy fruit notes of thick cut marmalade and lemon fruit. Spicy hop resins give a dry floral note to the long bitter aftertaste. Finish is malty and zesty with soft citrus flavours sparkling in the throat. An excellent session bitter and well recommended.
