COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Pasteurised.
Abv reduced from 5.7 to 5.6 in 2010.
Its initial sweetness is, apparently, "of roasted and vinous notes with a subtle bitter aftertaste". Strong fruitiness, often with "banana notes" standing out, is derived from Old Peculier’s fermentation process.

The best beer on God’s green earth. For me it can only be bettered by the cask version, which gives the smoothness that the pasteurising process seems to affect. A classice dark, "roasted" ale, it goes down that well it sits comfortably as an all year round ale.

Rich deep dark brown with a nice finger sized head with an off-white color.Dark fruity notes. Rich fruity roasted malt taste. With a slippery feel to it. With a hint of sourness. Finish has a mild sweetness. Very pleasant and unique brew.

.5 liter poured into a nonic. Appearance is a hazy dark brown with a creamy offwhite head. Great head retention. Smells of toffee, caramel, and dark fruit. Raisins and prunes are most prominent. Also some molasses. Taste is very reminiscent of the dark fruit noted in the aroma. Also some molasses and caramel. There is also a flavor reminiscent of pipe tobacco along with a bit of musty basement. Some wood too. Mouthfeel is nice and thick. Overall this is an excellent beer. There is so much going on here and the balance of flavors is incredible. A top notch beer and one I would love to have on a regular basis.

Loved this ever since first trying it. As ever, taps are smoother. Still satisfying from the bottle though. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz Bottle. Really surprised to see that I had not rated this. Aroma is a muddy brown malt melange. Flavors come together somewhere in the midst of a strong Brown Ale, a weak Old Ale, and an okay English Strong Ale. I do realize that this beer is unique in it’s own right, but I’m having trouble appreciating travel-aged examples of traditional styles that seem to be done better on this side of the pond. A nice show of malt, but nothing exceptional.
