Abv reduced from 5.7 to 5.6 in 2010.
Its initial sweetness is, apparently, "of roasted and vinous notes with a subtle bitter aftertaste". Strong fruitiness, often with "banana notes" standing out, is derived from Old Peculierís fermentation process.

This ale makes me wish I still lived in England. Fairly strong aroma of malts, biscuit raisin and a hint of banana. Pours a dark earthy red/brown with a thin tan head that sadly dissipates. Feels very smooth in the mouth and has an great taste of malts, caramel, raisin and again a hint of banana. A great ale, I am jealous of everyone who can buy it in the supermarket!

A dark brown, slightly reddish beer with a medium and beige head. The nose has nuts, wood, some dark fruits. Taste is balanced, dark fruits, dark bread, dry wood, some roastiness, quite dry. Medium bodied, the great and smooth to drink that is the best part of this beer. Basic beer with nice balance.

Bottle. Dark brown, small tan head. Dark sweet fruits, some faint hints of medicinal herbs in aroma. Ripe garden fruits too with additional notes of ripe and mashed banana. Mild in taste, some burnt toffee sweetness, light bitterness, bit of old hay and hints of ripe fruits in taste. Mild in finish as well, but okay in someway, relaxing and soothing without too much fuzz here. Nice. Minerals and slightly burnt toffee in aftertaste.

"i hate to say it, but some olde ales taste just that...old. musty. this one does not. a very good, rich, flavorful beer that doesnít betray that itís only 5.6%."
