Nov 13, 2009 Bottle thanks to thirdeye11. Pours with an off-white head and a clear brown body. Aroma of caramel and brown sugar. Taste is caramel with a ton of fruity esters and brown sugar. Light carbonation.

Oct 15, 2009 I wanted something special for my first rating. I asked the guy at the Beer store his opinion. He cracked one of these open, and shared it with me. I thought it was great! It smells good, looks good (if you like brownish/black) it was sweet (fruity?) and I guess what is called earthy. Had what I thought was a slight cigar taste to it. (a good cigar)
Overall it was excellent, so I bought a 6pk!

Oct 12, 2009 50cl dark brown bottle, label as shown. It sure is pretty: Pours an impressive dark reddish-brown with big, creamy beige head and generous lacing. Aroma of various red berries, toffee-ish sweetness, roasted malts. Low carbonation - creamy, if a wee bit grainy, mouthfeel. Taste is agreeably malty, balanced by dried fruit and some caramel. Dry, hoppy finish, lasting bitter aftertaste. The most complex of the Theakston brews that I’ve tried, and the one that now strikes as their most characterful and likeable. How impressions change! From the cask at the Beer Festival it struck me as too sweet, the bottled version doesn’t. Nice, complex dark ale.

Aug 31, 2009 This "yorkshire" ale is a delicious smooth alternative to a scotch ale. It pours very dark brown, almost an oil color. It has a chocolate malty aroma. The delicious malty flavor is very smooth.

Aug 27, 2009 50 cl bottle at home. Abv is 5,6%. Hanne bougth this bottle in England - thx. Deep reddish brown color, nice beige head. Aroma is malt, sugar sweetness and dried fruit. Flavor is on the sweet side, maybe a bit too sweet, malty, dried fruit, ok bitterness. A bit thin body.

Aug 11, 2009 Strong roast malt aroma. Mahogany with little head. Flavour is sweetish malt balanced by hoppy bitterness, some dried fruit, caramel and banana tang. Medium-bodied. Finishes sweetish caramel with a slight bitter note. Long burnt caramel aftertaste. Very tasty.
