Commercial Description:
Bottle; Pasteurised.
Its initial sweetness is, apparently, "of roasted and vinous notes with a subtle bitter aftertaste". Strong fruitiness, often with "banana notes" standing out, is derived from Old Peculier’s fermentation process.

[Archive] Bubbly, light tan foam over reddish, dark beer. Little aroma but full flavour. Over-carbonized but solid malts and mouth filling. Barleywine light.

Dark, thick pour with lots of carbonation and a small head. Smell is excellent, very rich belgian-like strong aroma of malt, sweetness, alcohol and bananas/ Taste is also good, stout like maltiness, nice bitter finish. Very nice.

Bottle - Poured a clear brown in color with a small light tan head. Aroma was quite fruity with lots of banana and some roasty malt. Flavor is slightly venous with small sourness and quite strong "fruity note" (banana, as described). Finished with a strongly malty flavor, slight sourness, banana and slight astringent/bitter at the end. Interesting...

This was the colour of coke with an off white gradually disappearing head. Smelt of malt and hops with a hint of chocolate. Very smooth with a nice subtle flavour.

Clear dark brown with medium beige short lasting head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, caramel and chocolate notes. Sweet and roasted flavor with hoppy notes leading it to a bitter finish.

This is a very nice Old Ale, with tons of character and class. It basically defines the style, and it is a beer that I enjoy drinking again and again. Poured into a classic mug, it produces a rocky, beige head that quickly dissipates and leaves a small, long lingering ring of foam. The color is very dark brown, nearly black in most light. Raisins, figs, and brown sugar are the first noticeable aromas, followed suddenly by intense licorice, cola, and a spicy, herbal, earthiness. The taste brings anise and black currant to the experience, a fluttering presence of black cherry stays through the finish. There is no percievable hop presence, just plenty of smooth, toasted, chewy malt. If drunk cold, it has an oaky, very whiskeyish taste, but is best served warm, which is when the above mentioned flavors really make themselves know. Excellent mouthfeel- crisp, smooth, medium-bodied, remotely drying with a lively carbonation that tickles the tongue. This beer is very easy to drink, but entirely full of flavor. Very well rounded. I love it.

Bottle; poured a muddy, reddish brown; fairly dark in color. Small, creamy head that was a shade darker than off white. Aroma was unsurprisingly very malty; fruit, caramel, dark fruit, molasses and some cola. Very impressive flavor initially, definitely taste the banana notes alluded to in the description. Generally a smooth palate, with some harshness and light bitterness in the finish. Flavor did get worse, not bad, but worse with more sips. More cola and caramel emerged. Only slightly sweet. Overall flavor was complex, but didn’t mesh as well as possible. I also strongly disliked the finish; the harshness/astringency did not go well with the soft on the palate beginning.
