Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Jun 18, 2008 This is the sixth beer in our June 11th Old Ale Blind Tasting. It finished in 7th place. Courtesy of CigarCityBrew.
Pours brown with half inch tan head. The aroma is weak and has the sense of thinly concocted cherry koolaid with some dustiness around the edges. I also get some licorice and faint roasted malts notes. The taste is thin and Porter like with some burnt malts and dark fruity esters. I also get twists coming from licorice, dates, raisins and a faint amount of pepper. Nice sessionable (for the style) tasting brew. Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA Jun 16, 2008 From a 12 ounce bottle--Poured a ruddy brown-black body with a thin beige head. Nose of dark malts and spicy burnt wood. Robust without being overly muddy or nutty. Caramel and biscuit profile of many UK brews. Nice work! jbuzz (658), South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jun 16, 2008 Sample pack from Woodman’s Oak Creek. I liked it but realy did not find anything specail. jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Jun 14, 2008 12 oz bottle-pours a rich light tan head and black color with red tint. Aroma is mild medium/dark malt, faint wood/spice. Taste is roasty medium/dark malt-molasses/chocolate, secondary wood/spice with some sharpness, dry, nutty. OK carbonation. fishingnet (1045), Brandon, Florida, USA Jun 11, 2008 Bottle courtesy CigarCityBrew. Pours dark brown with a large tan head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of cherry Kool Aid dust and a hint of roasted malt. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium thin mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness. Medium thin mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness. Good. BlackForestCO (819), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Jun 9, 2008 Updated: Feb 13, 2009Bottle. Poured a deep brown color with a moderate beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, nuts, and some moderate fruitiness. Flavors include a sweet maltiness, some nuts and biscuit, light caramel, and light undertones of dark fruit in the finish. Decent on the palate, but a bit thin. From old notes, so it would be nice to try again. dalepryor (172), Paducah, Kentucky, USA Jun 8, 2008 pours a very dark amber color, smells of fruits mostly, the flavor is really sweet, hints of banana and other fruits and malts but this is not too heavy of an ale. Overall it’s very drinkable. xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA Jun 5, 2008 Bottle from West Lakeview Liquors, Chicago. Dark brown almost opaque with red tint and small tan body. Aroma is nutty, chocolate, a little biscuit, sweet like belgian candy sugar, a little molasses, very rich. Molasses is the first flavor with nuttiness, rasisins and other dark fruit, chocolate, very enjoyable but the alc comes out a little too much towards the finish. Medium body that feels a little watery. A very good beer overall even if there were a few things detracting from it.
