Commercial Description:
Bottle; Pasteurised.
Its initial sweetness is, apparently, "of roasted and vinous notes with a subtle bitter aftertaste". Strong fruitiness, often with "banana notes" standing out, is derived from Old Peculier’s fermentation process.

Bottle: Dark brown semi red pour. No head to speak of. Very little carbonization. Sweet caramel aroma. Semi sweet taste with a light bitter finish. Overall a very good brew.

[WBA Styles Tasting] Dark amber/brown color. Estery, fruit aroma almost like juicy fruit gum. Some slight banana, raisin and prune. Low bitterness. Almost wine-like, with some slight oxidation present. Drying finish. Very good.

July 2006 - This was really disappointing. Beer poured nice brown color with ruby red highlights. Next to no head and minimal lacing. The aroma was really strong alcohol and butter. The flavor was really dominated by buttery diacetyl. A lot of sweetness. I just found this unpleasant.

Bottle. Nice dark color with little head. Small aroma with notes of mahogony and licorice. Flavor is bitter with back tones of malt and a hint of molasses. Strong finish with notes of mocha. A nice old English Ale.

Pours an extremely dark brown. Nose is almost like smoky wood. Touch of caramel in there. Flavor is extremely smooth. A bit lighter than some old ales out there, but still carries a nice slight woody character to it. Smooth caramel flavor there. More like, caramel out of the heart of a tree. Feel has a nice level of carbonation and a good liquid feel. Overall this one is very drinkable. Not the most complex old ale by any means, but definitely smooth and well made.

Dark ruby color with an off-white head. Rich maltiness with a subtle bitterness and alcohol warmth on the finish. Nice beer.

A nice and interesting beer! It has a lot of notes that meet in a nice harmony. I find berries, dark fruit, malt, nice cough medicine and a bit of smoke? The bitterness is just right. A nice beer. (Early rating)
