IlanMan (816), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA Jan 12, 2008 Updated: Mar 1, 2008Real smooth lightly fruit tasting ale. Poured a real dark golden amber with a light white head. Tastes of light fruit, toffee, and hickory. Would buy again. I do appreciate it for its history and its ability to stay in production today. Definitely a solid beer. demitriustown (689), Shelby Township, Michigan, USA Jan 9, 2008 12 oz bottle: Aroma is sweet, caramel, raisins, and somewhat of a plum characteristic. Pours a carbonated dark amber almost black with a tin tan head that diminishes quickly. Taste has roasted malt flavor, a bit of smoke, I don’t really detect the banana notes talked about in the commercial description. More of a dark fruit note. Overall, Decent not stellar but I could drink more than one of these. timfoolery (482), California, USA Jan 4, 2008 This brew scores points with me for smooth drinkability, despite tasting slightly watered down. It was almost like a dark lager with more flavor, but with a peculier flavor. Another thing I remember was this beer had a great breadth of taste to it, although it lacked a depth regarding taste. I’ll have to drink it again to confirm the "banana notes" because I couldn’t put a finger on the particular flavors at the time. DTM (541), Winters, California, USA Jan 3, 2008 Poured a very dark brown with only a moderate head. Malty flavor with a hit of dark fruit flavor. Not as full bodied and many of the darker beers, but still great. greenmanalishi (294), Leicestershire, England Jan 3, 2008 roasted malts, nuts, sugars, reduced dark fruits. a really evocative flavour. one that i’ll need to come back to with more notes, and one to drink cool but not chilled. cking (1012), North Canton, Ohio, USA Jan 1, 2008 Single bottle poured into my pint glass and allowed to rest and warm up for a while. I’ve been slowly sipping on this beer, and have found it to be very enjoyable. Moderately calm aroma of roasted malt and molasses. Burnt amber color with a small lasting tan head and some decent lacing. Full and very creamy on the palate. Smooth with a nice strong finish. Classic Old Ale flavors of burnt, stale malts. A touch bitter along with a residual sweetness. Nuts, coffee, brown sugar, and mild chocolate notes. Very flavorful and all around enjoyable. jobyone (234), Charlotte, USA Dec 31, 2007 Pours dark brown with off white head. Sweet notes on teh aroma. Malt and choclate dominate the taste and the finish has a medium bitterness. It is always fun having an old friend like teh peculier. shanepardue (107), Raytown, Missouri, USA Dec 29, 2007 Thick head, seems like chocolate hops. Tastes almost like a dark stout, but fruity and less thick-bodied then that of a stout. Decent beer.
