Commercial Description:
Bottle; Pasteurised.
Its initial sweetness is, apparently, "of roasted and vinous notes with a subtle bitter aftertaste". Strong fruitiness, often with "banana notes" standing out, is derived from Old Peculier’s fermentation process.

Bottle. Poured into a pint. Very flowery aroma. Poured very dark brown with frothy tan head. Good balance of malts and is a very smooth Old Ale.

Very good. Pours black with a tan head. The aroma is of alcohol, yeast, maltiness, with a bit of wine-ness and nut. The flavor is surprisingly smooth for a beer this dark. It pours past your lips easily and has a perfectly balanced aftertaste. Just enough kick for a drinking beer. I’m definitely going to buy a six pack of this.

Pours a cloudy dark brown with small light tan head. Alot of caramel malt, dark fruits, and molasses in the nose. Pretty sweet smelling. The flavor was much the same, medium bodied, with a profound malt presence. Also, had a roasty bitterness to it especially in the finish and the aftertaste. Not as sweet in the flavor as in the nose. Definitely get some mild caramel and molasses flavors in there too, but not as much as I thought there would be. Pretty good.

9/26/07 From the bottle. Aroma is alcoholic dark fruit forward, leathery, with a coffee-roast like malt character, with notes of molasses and a unique tart earthiness. Appearance is mahogany, clear, with a moderate off-white head. Flavor is roast malt forward, with some toast, light caramel, molasses, light nuttiness, moderate bittering and a low earthy hop note. Mouthfeel is toasty, grainy, medium/full bodied, with no warmth. Overall, an interesting, complex brew with a good balance between hops, sweetness and roast.

Fairly clear, dark chestnut body with crimson hues. Small, quickly dissipating off-white head. Foam gives way to a thin film with a prominent rim almost instantaneously. Minimal, random lacing noted. Aroma is a bit subdued, showing darkly toasted grains, hints of banana, and subtle vinous notes. Caramel is apparent on a deep inhale. The flavors are more pronounced, though still lacking significant depth. Burnt caramel, toasted grains, and vinous dark fruits comprise the taste profile. Bitter hops come through on the moderately long finish. Medium bodied, with a lively, highly carbonated mouthfeel. Decent brew, but lacking in various areas.

Bottled (thanks cgarvieuk!). Deep copper colour, mediumsized creamy brown head. Aroma is caramel, wood, some slight hints of spices and mild roast. Flavour is caramel malts, and some mild roast. Also chocolate, spices fruits and some grassy hops. Very pleasant.

From bottle : Pours a very dark brown with a beige foamy finger head. Nose of sweet malts, banana, caramel, and a little chocolate. A very nice sweet malt flavor, with fruity notes, and some roasted coffee. Medium body that feels creamy on the palate. Nice aftertaste.

Bottle. Dark murky mahogany with thin head. Complex pleasant aroma of dark fruit and creamy caramel. Chocolate with slight roasted coffee and dark fruity undertones, hops are barely noticeable. Silky body but with a mild touch of carbonation. "Subtle but complex" is a good description, as is "satisfying".
