sm89walt (434), Norwich, Norfolk, England Sep 12, 2007 50cl bottle. A lovely chestnut colour beer with very little head. Pleasant fruity aroma. Sweet malty taste that hints at roasted coffee. There’s not much in the way of bitterness. A highly enjoyable beer with a moderate body. joohefner (380), Isla Vista, California, USA Sep 11, 2007 a dark red brown with a faint tan head. mild aroma of plummy chocolate and a mellow fruitiness in the background. light silky body and very soft carbonation. flavor is dominated by a complex maltiness: mostly chocolate with a slight roasted quality. there are some almonds in the background and dark fruits and cherries. the flavor is very subtle but complex. its mellow and drinkable, very good. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Sep 1, 2007 Updated: Sep 14, 2008Date: 01/21/1996

jlruthven (134), Milledgeville, Georgia, USA Aug 30, 2007 Bottle. Poured dark brown with reddish hints. Nose is strong caramel, slight bananas. A chocolate overtone comes through in the taste, more caramel, very malty. A little sweet for my palate...and I like my old ales with a few more alcohol points than this. rlgk (3377), Vårgårda, Sweden Aug 30, 2007 Bottle. Nice amber color, offwhite head. Roasted malt aroma, cherry and pine apple notes, some brown sugar. Malty, milkt flavor, brown sugar, rather sweet with some almond notes. rickgordon (3285), Göteborg, Sweden Aug 28, 2007 Bottled.
Dark ruby brown colour. Big cottony head. Dark, bready flavour profile with light toasty notes and hints of strawberries, chocolate and almonds. Bit sugary. Pretty long flavour. Not very smooth in mouthfeel. Big letdown - I used to love this beer. DownsouthGav (602), Greater London, England Aug 28, 2007 Chocolate notes, malty/dried fruits in the nose, smooth, surprisngly light bodied - very good session drink Daredevil (77), Bern, Switzerland Aug 23, 2007 This is probably the most legendary old ale ... strangly could not find it on tab in Yorkshire when visiting this autumn ... it’s soft and oily, lightly smoky, malty, hints of milk chocolate paired with raisins and dried blackcurrant, very smooth and sustaining ... this has everything a brew needs to offer pleasure and delight ....
