Foreboding metallic aroma paints a thin, underdeveloped picture, before revealing chocolate, bananas and caramel. Lovely. Subtle charred flavors including fried banana and dried apple. Dark chocolate, pistachio and burnt brown rice. The complexity of this is surprisingly intense but not overwhelming. Palate is slightly too thin and out of proportion but all in all this is quite a winner. Fukito (604), Buenos Aires, Argentina
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 6, 2007 Bottle at In de Wildeman, march 07. Burnt candy, toffee flavor with a touch of licorice and some sherry. A touch of molasses and dried fruits too. Dark burned sugar and fruits aroma. A clear, very dark (almost black) brownish color with some burgundy, ruby, hues and a thin white rim. MF is medium, rich fruitiness palate with an astringent ending. A nice, complex, enjoyable old ale. marchcow (664), Coralville, Iowa, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 4, 2007 Dark with minimal head. Sweet maltiness dominates. Molasses. Minimal carbonation. Palate is fairly flat. Flavor is good but not very interesting overall. BeerBelcher (937), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 1, 2007 Pours a black liquid with a bit (a cm or so) of head. Aroma is a faint amount roastiness with a lot of red wine characteristics. Flavor is some roastiness with additional red wine fullness. Mouthfeel is full-bodied and somehow thick. I didn’t find this very drinkable, and I didn’t really enjoy this. Jukkabro (3005), Tampere, Finland
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 29, 2007 Near black colored with red hints. Vanishing brown head. Sweetness, raisins, plum, licorice and mild alcohol in aroma. Medium bodied. Flavor is also nicely plummy and licoricy, some roastiness there too. Aftertaste dries with biting carbonation and hops. I like this plum there, it also lasts in aftertaste. TheCheeseMan (538), Saint Cloud, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 27, 2007 I have always loved this beer, it was one of my first "real" beers. What a day to have found it yet again at the greatest beer store, Knightly Spirits. LinusStick (1831), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Mar 24, 2007 Just when I think I’ve tried it all and can’t be "wowed" any more a refreshing change of pace like this comes along and reminds me I am still a baby in the beer world! Not much of an aroma to speak of. Pours a coal black with a thin off white ring for a head and no lacing on the glass. This complex beer starts out malty with wierd caramel taste in the background. Tastes of iced tea and roast. Pleasing and refreshing! beervis (223), People’s Republic of Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, England
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Mar 24, 2007 Intoxicating smell, rich and sweet. Finish long and mellow, moreish. Looks good, smells great, tastes good - get some! Always one of my favourites when I can’t think of anything new to try.
