Commercial Description:
Bottle; Pasteurised.
Its initial sweetness is, apparently, "of roasted and vinous notes with a subtle bitter aftertaste". Strong fruitiness, often with "banana notes" standing out, is derived from Old Peculier’s fermentation process.

Worcestishire sauce? Smokey nose. Thin palate, simple. Very bland, low malt profile. Finishes with a molasses flavor.

It doesn’t sustain. But it is still good. Woodsy. Smells like burnt pizza crust. Delicious flaovr, but quits early. Needs to be a little longer on the tongue. Tried Old Engine Oil if you would like to see how this should really taste

Bottle. Sweet, smokey nose like bbq sauce. Reddish black with no head. Interesting malt profile, flavorful until the finish. Palate is nice, whiskey-like, and sharp.

Almost worth the cost of a trip to England to become reacquainted with this ale from my youth. Dark red/black with a minor tan head. Hint of sweet red wine in the aroma, burned malts with a subtle sweet tinge in the taste. Oh to be in Yorkshire where this is on tap. As it is, happy with a bottle in London!

Lovely looking, enticing beer. When you hold up to the light, it appears ruby red mixed with dark undertones. Aroma is fruity and inviting. The initial taste is nothing amazing, however the aftertaste is the highlight of this beer and provides a pleasureable fruity taste that invites you back for another gulp! it truely lives up to its title. Perhaps one of the finest bottled ales I have tasted to date.

Purchased in a bar in Houston and served way too cold. More balanced towards malt and fruity, enjoyable and I would have an other. Page 451 of Michael Jackson’s Great Beer Guide and only 240 of his Classic 500 Brews to go. Had this recently at the brewery, after and tour by Simon Theakston, while talking to the cooper that made the barrel that it was served out of......priceless.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass. Dark with a thin tan head, deep reddish brown when held up to the light. Aroma is light with notes of coffee and roasted malt. The taste is a wonderful combination of roasted malt and dark fruits with a mild sweetness and an earthy nose. I didn’t detect much bitterness. Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth. This one will definitely be found in my fridge again.
