ehhdayton (1113), USA Jul 17, 2006 The aroma has a fruity note with some banana and roasted malt. The pour is a dark brown with a tan head and moderate lacing. A dark fruity sweetness strikes the palate initially but gives way to a more roasted malt finish. jimvy (131), O’Fallon, Missouri, USA Jul 12, 2006 Bottle. Pours a deep brown with good clarity and a white-tan head. Head disapated rather quickly. Aroma is thick caramel and malt with a slight bit of oak-like character. Slightly sweet on the front, but finishes a bit bitter. Dominated by malt, but I definitely get the "banana-notes" noted in the description. Carbonation is very light, but expected for this style. Overall, a very easy drinking pint with a good malt profile and enough complexity to keep you interested. Nice beer. WarFockewulf (21), Douglasville, Georgia, USA Jul 3, 2006 This was the best Beer that I sampled in Manchester while visiting pubs. Dark amber almost brown color with tan creamy head. It was served hot, maybe warm and still very tasty. jason (1620), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 30, 2006 Bottle.
A great ale! Very nice taste. The aroma I didn’t care for too much and I don’t think it did much compared to the taste. Goes down smooth and is very enjoyable. DruncanVeasey (2695), The Penguin’s Arms, Europe, Warwickshire, England Jun 20, 2006 Updated: Feb 19, 2007Deep blackish brown with hints of red. Dirty dimpled head. Aroma is headily alcoholic, with some barrelly wood. Smells like red wine. Looks like coke or Kostritzer. Flavour is smooth and roasty with sweetish suggestions of chocolate, and definite red wine notes in a sourish aftertaste. A seductively creamy and complex beer. themadmumis (344), Westminster, Maryland, USA Jun 9, 2006 Excellent brew. Hints of Bodington’s and Bass ales. Very smooth and enjoyable. Highly enjoyable; didn’t dissapoint me. Now, I need to try it on tap... eaglefan538 (2355), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jun 2, 2006 Poured a pretty dark mahogany color with a finger head. Lacing was above average and the aroma was somewhat vinous. A slight buttery smell was detectable, which was a turn off. The flavor was rich, starting somewhat sweet and wine-like, but then moving to a more bitter and dry finish. I was surprised to see the ABV at only 5.6, since the alcohol was detectable. Fairly smooth beer, which woulda ranked higher if not for the butter-like aroma (which was present also in the taste). stison42 (318), Blacksburg, Virginia, USA Jun 2, 2006 Black, oaty and smooth but the taste hangs around a little too long, plus there isn’t enough flavor as I expect in a nice dark beer.
