Commercial Description:
Bottle; Pasteurised.
Its initial sweetness is, apparently, "of roasted and vinous notes with a subtle bitter aftertaste". Strong fruitiness, often with "banana notes" standing out, is derived from Old Peculier’s fermentation process.

A cool dark ale. . One of the first dark ales I tried that was not some safe, dull Guinness Draught .It was back in 2002, I was 21 , so this stuff was kinda liberating or something. Theakston Old seldom keeps a long head, but has a deep ruby vibe. I always get banana esters from this beer. Rich ,malty and earthy. Chocolate and red wine too.

oh man. this is gonna suck. got the bottle from lexington, ky. says it’s brewed in the Yorkshire style, whatever the hell that means. very deep brown, very opaque. i’ve never seen anything quite like it. i’m reminded of the de dolle one i liked, but more brown instead of red. very cool. smells good. actually also somewhat like that de dolle. dark fruit, candyish, not a lot of alcohol. nuts/wood. definitely vanilla. pretty damned complex for a $1.58 throwaway. flavor is decent, too. i hope this has a fair amount of alcohol. it’s a bit thinner than i was expecting, but it is pretty well balanced and drinkable. very creamy. actually, the flavor is pretty underwhelming. boring, and a little tart. every sip is worse than the one before it. better add my rating fast.

Bottle. Sweet fruity aroma. Dark reddish amber body, no head. Moderately sweet fruit and caramel flavor, quite mild but refreshing. Some bitterness in the finish.

355ml brown bottle. Pours a burnt brown with notes of dark ruby. Very heavy and creamy head. Aroma is of sweetened cream, slightly scorched fresh caramel, butterscotch, cola, coffee, and oily hop resin. Flavor profile matches aroma. Mouth feel is chewy and oily. Medium-low carbonation. Medium-high diacetyl content gives beer a wonderful but not heavy buttery mouth feel. Low bitterness. Very malty and flavorful. An exemplary old style ale.

dark burnt caramel color, modest sticky lacing, dried cinnamon apple aroma. I’m drinking this too cold, it seems distant. Some cola and dried driftwood. clean in the middle, then a mild smokiness creeps up and never really gains momentum, it fades away nicely.

Reddish brown color, thin white head. Aroma of pine and nuts. Flavors of malt with some dark fruit in the background. Very nice.

Bottle. I enjoyed this one quite a bit early on in my beer ratings. Nice fruity esters banana, cherry, berries. Subtle bitterness with a light smoke and dryness about it.

(bottle) pours a dark ruby colour with a foamy off-white head. aroma of light fruits, bread, herbal hops and light roasted malts. flavour is spicy herbal hop and sweet spices, roasted malts, dark fruit and light caramel. medium body with lively carbonation and a light bitter finish.
