pivnizub (4949), Bochum, Porúří, Germany Dec 24, 2005 Bottle: Reddish amber coloured, thin, stable foamy; dried fruit (raisins), a tinge of hops in the aroma, sweet-malty, caramelly and vinous nose; toffee and roast malts in the beginning; bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied; complex fruity finish, ending a bit chocolatey. Very good, but not a super-ale..................... DuffMan (2719), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada Dec 22, 2005 Fantastic! Dark mahogany brown, thick tan head. Rich aromas of molasses, raisin bread, and a soft fruity note. Full bodied palate, toffee, burnt sugar, cocoa, and stewed prunes. Well balanced and excellent. KUEric (632), Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA Dec 17, 2005 Bottle: Dark body, creamy head and texture/mouthfeel. A little spice on th enose and tounge, kind of sharp and bitter. Some caramel. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA Dec 16, 2005 Bottle. Dark body that is almandine when held up to the light. Head fades into a good sized film of bubbles. Nose-woody, grapey, a little spicy. Taste-light banana, very fruity and grapey, prune, very light fig, maybe some unsweet caramel that translates as some light smoke. High CO2 that is very sharp on the tongue. A really good sipper. Not mind blowing in any way, but quite enjoyable. thebeertourist (2750), Oslo, Norway Dec 8, 2005 Dark chestnut brown with an appetising beige head. Aroma of caramel and fruits. Initially sweet, then countered by bitterness, so the finish feels dry. There are fruity as well as yeasty notes. Very nice. Papsoe (14613), Frederiksberg, Denmark Nov 27, 2005 (Bottle 33 cl) Very dark - close to black - with a fairly small, off-white head. Considering all the stuff they put into this(several malts, corn, wheat, 3 different hops, different sugars) it’s fairly light-bodied. Some smoked notes do stand out amongst the roasted, malty, slightly coffeeish flavours. Very drinkable - a pleasure. 170701 OldMrCrow (1179), Seattle, Washington, USA Nov 19, 2005
From the bottle
Pours a deep brown with a reasonable - though short-lived - head.
Splendid aroma of raisins, spice, and molassas, but the flavor (slighty sweet, fruity, dominanted by the malt), and mouthfeel (thin, almost insipid, slightly prickly) doesn’t live up to the initial aroma.
Wolfenstein (96), Sarasota, Florida, USA Nov 19, 2005 Bottle. Poured a dark brown with no head. Malty aroma. Medium body. Slick fruity malt flavor. Little carbonation. Smooth finish.
