Commercial Description:
Bottle; Pasteurised.
Its initial sweetness is, apparently, "of roasted and vinous notes with a subtle bitter aftertaste". Strong fruitiness, often with "banana notes" standing out, is derived from Old Peculier’s fermentation process.

Pours an ok fizzy head but is short lived. Good lacing. Nice dark chocolate brown, very stout like. Nose shows complexit, sweet malty notes with a roasted twist. Shows quite a bit of power. Quite confectionary-like early in the palate, very appealing but a bit simple. Does dry out a touch but still a bit simple and short at the finish. I may have drank this a bit cold so probably worthy of a revaluation in proper conditions.

Dark body with hints of ruby and a creamy, foamy, off-white head that laces well. The aroma is complex with chocolate and iron notes. It has a refreshing, smooth and oily body with more chocolate and iron, and a raisiny dryness.

Smells of milk chocolate and fresh plums and grapes, pours dark brown with a tan foamy head that quickly recedes. Color is more of a deep ruby red when held to a light. Tastes first of cocoa and dark fruits, then maple syrup, a bit leathery, doughy yeasts. Lightly bitter. Creamy textured medium body, a bit too thin. Goes down easy with a finishing taste of mild coffee, not very bitter.

Pours large head, pale brown, cloudy ale. Clean hoppy aroma, pleasantly sweet. Medium bodied, malty, bready feel, some light bitter finish. Simplistic, but not bad at all.

pours a dark, almost opaque amber with off white head. roasty aroma, malty, but not very pleasant to me. taste is more of the same, but a little bitter. I dont like the mouthfeel, i think its the carbonation-its a bit sharp for me. meh. wont drink again

Cellar Temp. Dark burgundy color. Tan creamy head, lasting with some lacing. Light roasted malt aroma a bit stale seeming. Moderately complex flavor, dry, slightly musty with serious cardboard notes. Finishes with a slight alcoholic burn. OK.

Bottled. Dark with ruby tints, fluffy, big bubbled, off-white head that dies slowly. Nose is malty and treacley but that fades rather too quickly. As you would expect, it is a big chewy beer with a pronounced malty, bitter finish. Not the classic I remember, but still good. I prefer Broughton Breweries Black Douglas these days, try that as well and see what you think.

BOTTLE: Musty, Band-Aid nose with some sulfur. Dark clear brown with a tall rocky head. Rich woody malt body with some raisin, nuts, peat, but also vegetable. Cinnamon end with a little stale, cardboard aftertaste. Medium body. Rich, but an odd taste and balance overall.
