Abv reduced from 5.7 to 5.6 in 2010.
Its initial sweetness is, apparently, "of roasted and vinous notes with a subtle bitter aftertaste". Strong fruitiness, often with "banana notes" standing out, is derived from Old Peculier’s fermentation process.

I have a soft spot in the head for Old Peculier. It has such an unusual flavor. not like any other old ale. A little sweet a little burnt a little something else that is hard to describe but it just appeals to me greatly. Serving: Bottle

Classic. Wheat and caramel on the nose, beautifully balanced fruits and grains with a sweet finish. A standard for the "old" ales.

Sweet aroma and deep mahogany colour. Tastes slightly of banana. Has an alcohol taste similar to a Belgium style beer. Quite a good drink. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A dark and strong beer yet also very easy to drink. If it wasn't 5.6% this could almost be a good session beer!!

Pours an almost opaque, deep brown with not much head. Dark fruit aromas and some yeasty notes but not too pungent. Loads of dark fruits in the flavor and it does have some slight hop bitterness thrown in. I can see how this is considered a "legendary" beer. It is quite enjoyable, complex and keeps you coming back for more even after all these years(est. 1827). Definitely would recommend.

Very good beer as one beer at home. Reminds me of home and the local brewery (of old)

Full bodied with done acidity to start, lovely lively malt finish which lingers. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
