COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Pasteurised.
Abv reduced from 5.7 to 5.6 in 2010.
Its initial sweetness is, apparently, "of roasted and vinous notes with a subtle bitter aftertaste". Strong fruitiness, often with "banana notes" standing out, is derived from Old Peculier’s fermentation process.

Bottle. Pours a lavishly clear and dark reddish brown/brick hue. A creamy light tan head sits atop and clings to the glass as it descends. Aroma is subtly fruity and sweet with a sour alcohol note. Slight metallic aroma (import) like a grip of old coins. Muddy toffee notes open to the nose as the ale warms. An old earthy dustiness rounds out this beer. The flavor is bighty on the palate. Hints of vanilla and caramel dominate the middle. Finishes somewhat bitter, and mildly alcoholic, with lingering pleasant sour pear and grape nuts. Light/medium moutfeel. "Uncle B’s, A little rusty and dusty."

Bottle, 50 cl, Au comptoir de la bière, Callian (83). Overall very nice ale: smooth yet convincing. Pleasant mouthfeel, mild bitter finish. To me, ABV should not be higher: well balanced in all respects.

Bottle. Pouts dark nut brown, with slight lacing. Hint of roast coffee, banana notes, licorice, peach. Interesting fruity notes for such a malty character too! Sweet, bready finish - perhaps a touch thin. Really nice ale!

500ml bottle BB 28/2/2017 Sweet spicy aroma. Pours dark brown with cream head. Mild bitterness with minor residual malty aftertaste but that’s about it. I was expecting a lot more body and but what i got was a very thin finish. Disappointing.

This beer really reminds me of westmalle’s trappist dubble. Some metallic taste in here but otherwise quite good, or not bad, perhaps somewhere between.

Et fint skum, der som tidligere anmeldelse kunne minde lidt om hvidt-øl. Middel humlet.

Nut brown ale typical smell, head disappears quickly, nice brown towards red colour. Low to medium carbonation, fizzy type. Not too dry, citrus, leather, not too much is going on. Some bitter aftertaste. Bottom line, a bit flat, but I like the sour twist. Nice 10 word crime novel on the back side of the bottle :) Grade explanation: It is a nut brown ale, if you like this type it could be interesting. I don’t like this type of beer and therefore a low grade.

Bottle from Morrisons, Birtley, Gateshead. A dark brown, almost black beer with a ruby tinge and a creamy head f white foam. It has a chocolaty, nutty and currant flavour, with gentle burnt toffee and plum notes with a bitter oak finish. Very good.

50 cl bottle. Dark deep burgundy color, clear, big creamy beige head, lacing. Vinous smell. Aroma of dark roasted malts, cereals, cherry, molasses. Lots of woody tones. Warming rum-like alcohol, liquor, marker. Some raisins and licorice maybe. Very tasty, light salty, prominently sour, apparently sweetish ending up quite bitter. Low carbonation. Medium to full bodied, unexpectedly watery texture, dry sourish finish. It has something "wild", raw, yet evidently refined.
