COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Pasteurised.
Abv reduced from 5.7 to 5.6 in 2010.
Its initial sweetness is, apparently, "of roasted and vinous notes with a subtle bitter aftertaste". Strong fruitiness, often with "banana notes" standing out, is derived from Old Peculier’s fermentation process.

Reviewed 2/23/13. Thanks to Butch for the bottle! 12 oz bottle into a plastic cup. A: Pours a dark brown color. The head is a one finger light mocha shade. S: The first thing I notice is a nice caramel malt backbone. Afterwards, it morphs into a slightly sweeter expression of dark fruit, molasses, and chocolate. Decent depth in the aroma. T: The opening, midtaste, and finish at first sip is mostly earthy sourness. A bit of caramel tries to pop up before the semi-sour (not tart) finish, in a (failed) attempt to give it some depth. M: Feels light, but not overly so. There’s a good bit of carbonation which help gives the bittersweet finish a nice backbone to it. Refreshing?! Yes. Apart from the nose, it’s probably my favorite feature. O: Enjoyable aromatics, but it’s just okay otherwise. Though to be fair, this isn’t my style by any stretch of the imagination.

Drank with Rik, Tijs and Thierry in Malden while watching football. Okay beer noy great. Dark. Slight licorice taste. Not that much taste and a bit watery. However, the mouthfeel and aftertaste are quite full.

Aspetto: rosso molto scuro, limpido.

Pours a very dark, clear red with a frothy beige head. Smells of malt and sour fruit. The initial flavour is the sour fruit with the malt and hops coming through more slowly It’s surprisingly air, with a lighter side showing in the aftertaste and hints of banana.

Pours maroon with 1-finger tan head. Aroma is bread, banana, some plum. Some dunkel similarities. Medium-full body makes for more of a sipper. A little light in the finish and in ’real-ale’ bitterness. Molasses, more plum and a hint of liquorice in the flavor. Some metallic, earthy notes (fuggles, no doubt) accompany the caramel malt in the finish and are a little unpleasant. Well balanced and good fundamentals. Needs to be a bit more bold in presence, however, considering its lack of depth.
