Commercial Description:
Bottle; Pasteurised.
Its initial sweetness is, apparently, "of roasted and vinous notes with a subtle bitter aftertaste". Strong fruitiness, often with "banana notes" standing out, is derived from Old Peculier’s fermentation process.

Black body, bronish frothy head, mostly diminishing and fairly lacing. Malty and spicy aroma, very pleasing. Lightly bitter, lightly sweet initial flavour. Lightly bitter (long) finish. Soft mouthfeel.

Reddish brown color with just about no head to speak of. Smells of roasted malt, fruit, sugar, and caramel. Taste is about the same but the mouthfeel is a bit watery. Finish is short but overall this beer does many things right.

Great presentation in the glass, a deep copper colour with a nice creamy head. The nose is estery with some banana and aniseed. The mouthfeel is thick and taste of buttery diacetyl. Overall true to its name right down to the quirky spelling.

A sweet unassuming beer. Very good.

The first time I had this beer it was a hot summer afternoon and I thought the beer was truly amazing. This time I was not as impressed by old Peculier. The beer has the same characteristics as a winter or scotch ale. Maybe if I rated this beer in the summer (when I'm drinking more light lagers) I would have gave it a higher rating. It is worth sampling.

Pours a dark red/brown with a nice light tan head. Aroma of coffee, dark fruit, and some earthy bitterness. Flavors of roasted malt, dark fruit, caramel, and notes of banana and earthiness. Thin to medium mouthfeel.

Pours warm red-brown with a small caramel head. Butter-toffee aroma prominent. Hint of something vinous there, as well as currants and tobacco. Lots of soft sweet flavors with just enough roast backbone to keep it from being cloying. Medium palate with a nice clean finish. A really interesting old-fashioned beer, and a great example of restraint and balance. A wonderfully goofy name to boot.
