Wispy tan head that glistens back down the side of the glass when it’s swirled. Malty aroma with brown sugar and chocolate notes. Malty and smoky with tons of roast and chocolate flavors. There’s a good bit of fruit character as well. Surprisingly bitter. Dry finish. Very carbonated. Gethinbeer (1029), Nova Scotia, Canada
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 23, 2006 From bottle. Sweet, syrup and little bitter aroma. Black, coca cola look with a great crusty bread head. Smooth to taste with a nice smokey texture. Little tangy aftertaste. SpudClampDawg (1027), Jasper, Indiana, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 28, 2006 Murky crimson pour with a healthy tan head. The nose is outstanding - buttery chocolates, milk chocolate and malt balls mingle with esthery fruits. Cherries and bananas seem to dominate, adding a third dimension to the already tempting nose. The body is silky smooth. Earthy and nutty malts dominate - but seem to thin out near the finish. This should be great on cask. trokini (1027), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 16, 2006 Pours dark mahogany with a fluffy beige head. Aroma is very malty with some caramel, cream, and grapes. The mouthfeel and taste are silky smooth. A lot like an ESB in flavor, but without the astringent bitterness. There was some fruitiness, but more malt and sourdough-like bite. I really liked this one. badnewsbeers (1026), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA
