Commercial Description:
Bottle; Pasteurised.
Its initial sweetness is, apparently, "of roasted and vinous notes with a subtle bitter aftertaste". Strong fruitiness, often with "banana notes" standing out, is derived from Old Peculier’s fermentation process.

Pours blood red with some yellow tinged hues. Not much of a head. The nose is hmmm, peculier? There’s some sweet dark fruits in there, but then there’s also some tar and resinous alcohol. The body is a little thin, though it’s creamy enough. The flavors are even more baffling than the aromas. I get the initial sweet dark fruit, but then there’s more roast than I expected with some considerable smoke, tar and chemically tastes. The aftertaste is a strange sort of bitter. I’m not a huge fan of this beer, though it is certainly interesting even if it is peculier.

When you pour this beer, it is a half a glass of foam. It remains to be seen wheter that is a good thing or not. Dark brown opaque, large tan head that doesn;t last long enough. Good lacing. Alcoholic malt aroma. Bread, brown sugar, and hop flavor. Medium mouthfeel with slight bite. Good olde fashioned flavor and texture, taste, and appeal.

A good beer but too similar in taste to Newcastle and Mcewan’s IPA to merit a high score. I don’t taste much fruit at all, more roasted malts than anything.

oh man. this is gonna suck. got the bottle from lexington, ky. says it’s brewed in the Yorkshire style, whatever the hell that means. very deep brown, very opaque. i’ve never seen anything quite like it. i’m reminded of the de dolle one i liked, but more brown instead of red. very cool. smells good. actually also somewhat like that de dolle. dark fruit, candyish, not a lot of alcohol. nuts/wood. definitely vanilla. pretty damned complex for a $1.58 throwaway. flavor is decent, too. i hope this has a fair amount of alcohol. it’s a bit thinner than i was expecting, but it is pretty well balanced and drinkable. very creamy. actually, the flavor is pretty underwhelming. boring, and a little tart. every sip is worse than the one before it. better add my rating fast.

Good rich brown liquid. Nice head. Good aroma of malt and sweetness. Nice full mouthfeel with a nice and dry taste. Good full ale experience.

Smells like dark raisin bread and port--very interesting (first old ale I've ever had) Maybe some. . .nutmeg? Spice in there somewhere. Nice eggshell white firmish head. Dark brown body with a hint of red. Oh hell, just look at the picture, my adjective bank is running low. Tastes likes raisins, toffee, sweet donuts, and port. Very intriguing. Finishes very smooth, hops seem to barely exist. Quite bizarre, overall; couldn't get over how winey it tasted.

I have not had this beer for over 10 years and it was fun to try it again. More or less as I remembered it--lots of caramel, pruny stewed fruit, a perfect amount of hop bitterness to cut through the fruitcake flavor. I have never been a tremendous fan of the more 'dirty' tasting of the English ales, but it was nice to revisit this peculiar flavor.
