Commercial Description:
Bottle; Pasteurised.
Its initial sweetness is, apparently, "of roasted and vinous notes with a subtle bitter aftertaste". Strong fruitiness, often with "banana notes" standing out, is derived from Old Peculier’s fermentation process.

It pours a rich deep brown, about the color of cola, and not much of a head. The strong aroma is malty with a hint of toffee and even a bit of cola-like scent. Rich flavor is strongly malty with some hop bitterness and a whisper of toffee. This is a very tasty and satisfying ale, good either on its own or with a meal.

Bottle. Poured a deep brown color with a moderate beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, nuts, and some moderate fruitiness. Flavors include a sweet maltiness, some nuts and biscuit, light caramel, and light undertones of dark fruit in the finish. Decent on the palate, but a bit thin. From old notes, so it would be nice to try again.

[Bottle] Pours reddish-brown with a small white head that quickly disappears. Aroma is definitely sweet, with banana, malt and a bit of white wine. Taste is also malty, with very subdued fruitiness and a decent finish. Medium-mouthfeel, very smooth. Flavors don’t jump out, but isn’t completely one dimensional and is extremely drinkable.

A gem among old ales. This one features a very nice color and head, good aroma, and a great flavor. Very rich and delicious.

Cloudy tan with minimal head - undercarbonated, felt too watery on the palate. There’s a chance I purchased an old bottle of this, as there is an annoyingly low amount of carbonation. Nice malt/hop balance but nothing too amazing.

This beer is so good. Even in a bottle shipped from over the Atlantic, it is still good. It has a taste that makes you want to chew it. Nice black-amber color as it pours, very very peculiar and unrecognizable flavors and notes in the beer. I would love to sit down and have a few of these at a good burrowed pub, meeting people. Love the old recipie, love the "seal" of the Peculier on the cap, would love to have it on tap, love this beer.

THOUGHTS: The aroma was nice but weak. Some cola flavor wn hop bitterness. Pretty good. Definitely different, but not great. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark brown with red highlights and a small to average, off-white head that mostly diminished. The aroma was mostly cola and dark fruit (either plum or prune). The initial flavor was lightly sweet and also sour, while the finish was lightly sweet and light to moderately bitter with a short duration. The body was medium and mostly dry but a little oily with fizzy carbonation.
