May 27, 2007 (Bottled, BBE 04/2007) Clear, deep, dark ruby brown with a smallish but firm and lacy, beige head. Roasted-malty aroma with some dark fruit and a hint of licorice/salmiac. Malty, bananaish sweetness in the flavor, with anise/licorice hints and a dryish, bitter and sour, slightly ashy-burned finish. Medium-bodied, slightly thin palate with a bit fizzy but pretty low carbonation. A stylish and very drinkable beer, but could have more body to fit the Old Ale boots.

Jan 28, 2007 From the 12 oz bottle, poured a deep, opaque river-bottom muddiness and a frothy whipped head. With a deep sugary nose, the full-bodied flavors don’t exactly sneak up on your palate. Sweet and sugary with a toffee-fullness. Pleasantly bittered, but with a sweet almost black grape essence at the very end. Makes me crave some smoked almonds. (#2667, 1/28/07)

Spicy hop aroma, some strawberries as well.
Pours a chestnut color with a frothy white head.
Spices, nuts and strawberry, minty citrus aftertaste.
medium to light bodied.
Happy I tried it again, the first sample I had was definetly bad.

Oct 21, 2008 Bottle. Small head with short duration. Color is dark brown. Aroma and taste are malt, alcohol, grapes, raisins and notes of anis.

Jul 23, 2003 Poured dark brown with a large tan head that left nice lacing. Woody, nutty aroma that could be smelled almost a foot away from the glass. Nutty taste, slight caramel, but I can't taste the banana. First time I had this in the ghetto of Mobile, AL I compared it to Newcastle.

Aug 11, 2006 Bottle. Dark brown colour with a beige head. Aroma is sweet caramel malt. Flavour is sweet caramel, malt and some rostiness.

Jul 11, 2004 Dark brown, almost black color yet semi-clear. Little head. The aroma is a bit malty with a touch of wood. The taste has some oak along with mild fruit, oddly enough. The mouthfeel is pretty thin. Not quite the umph I was expecting.

Jun 22, 2004 Reminded me of a strong brown porter. Nice deep brown with beige head. Lots of chocolate and brown malt in the aroma and flavor. Good body and sweet and long lasting mouthfeel. Seems like this should have been at least 7% with all the full flavors and big body. Very nice.
