Abv reduced from 5.7 to 5.6 in 2010.
Its initial sweetness is, apparently, "of roasted and vinous notes with a subtle bitter aftertaste". Strong fruitiness, often with "banana notes" standing out, is derived from Old Peculier’s fermentation process.

A beer I liked years ago that is now back on the market in my area. Hard one to describe. Little carbonation. Pours a very dark brown with a tan head (reminds me of a head of a root beer float), There is a fruity taste, but more like raisins. I get a burnt malt taste to it too,Other flavors I can’t pick out. Drinking solo, it wasn’t as good as I remembered, but I know I will have some more with a nice venison steak tonight. ***Rerated: Second beer drank at warmer temperature. Sweetness came out a bit more. Flavor improved.******

Dark, but flat. Smells almost mushroomy, sweet ams malty, a bit mashy, some apple. Taste similar. Palate flat. Apple says this is way tired. An insult to a great beer. Candifloss pink sweetness. Nah. Should have a bottle to fix this poor rating.

Pours a clear brown color, topped with a fine tan head and a very decent lacing. Slightly fruity aroma, quite lots of coffee and roasted notes. Taste starts sweet, fruity, folllowed by coffee again and a little bitterness in the aftertaste. Not bad, although quite strong coffee notes.

UPDATED: NOV 21, 2014 0,5 l bottle from the English Shop in Bonn. Clear, dark, reddish brown with thick, creamy, diminishing, tan head. Nice aroma of dark fruits like prunes, dark cherries and raisins. Slightly vinous. Taste is slightly sweet and follows the aroma. Short medium bitter finish. Medium to full body, flat carbonation. Overall a really pleasant beer that lacks a bit of excitement. Still very good!

500 ml bottle. Deep dark reddish brown colour, thin tan head. Sweetish aroma of dark fruits and toasted malt, notes of wood. The flavour is sweetish malty, with dark fruits, caramel and toasted & nutty notes. Nice.

Clear dark brown looks with some red here and there. Beige head and nice lacing. Aroma has roasted malts, wood, dried fruits and red berries. Taste has wood, dried fruits, some banana in the after taste. A little mild taste in my opinion. Slightly thin body with medium-to-low carbonation. Expected a little more from this.

Bottle. Small white head, lace. Deep ruby black. Black cyrup and sweet malts on aroma. Sweet roasted malts, herbs, nuts and cola. Carbons. Like beer cola, not bad at all.

Bottle, 31/10/14. Pours a reddish, dark brown with a medium, beige head. Aroma is a lot of dark fruitiness, some dark maltiness. Taste is darkly malty, caramel, nuts, some flowery hoppiness, dark fruits abound. Fairly light with medium carbonation. Excellent drinkability.

I love the way it looks, dark, murky, with a thick extra creamy head. Aromas and flavours are very sweet, with maple syrup, malts and honey. Very woody and earthy. Good old stuff. Not much of a bitterness there, but we already knew in old times that hops, that continental innovation, clearly had the side effect of making men soft.
