3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A beer I liked years ago that is now back on the market in my area. Hard one to describe. Little carbonation. Pours a very dark brown with a tan head (reminds me of a head of a root beer float), There is a fruity taste, but more like raisins. I get a burnt malt taste to it too,Other flavors I canít pick out. Drinking solo, it wasnít as good as I remembered, but I know I will have some more with a nice venison steak tonight.
***Rerated: Second beer drank at warmer temperature. Sweetness came out a bit more. Flavor improved.******

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours an almost opaque, deep brown with not much head. Dark fruit aromas and some yeasty notes but not too pungent. Loads of dark fruits in the flavor and it does have some slight hop bitterness thrown in. I can see how this is considered a "legendary" beer. It is quite enjoyable, complex and keeps you coming back for more even after all these years(est. 1827). Definitely would recommend.

Bottle at home. Dark brown pour, foamy off-white head. Aroma of licorice, spicy malts and a bit yeasty. Flavor is spicy bitter malts, quite British and a bit sticky sugars. Decent balance, but a bit boring.

Pours a dark ruby color into snifter. Dark plum, raisins, and roastiness in the nose. Complex flavor with dark fruits, tart apple, and a sharp bitterness that fades into a sweetness. Lingering roastiness. Wonderful beer.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: MAR 8, 2014 Amber Ruby pour with minimal head. Aroma was mild malt and subtle vinous fruitiness. Flavor was exactly how it smelled. Body a little thin. Should have had more ABV punch to make this note worthy. At $14 a six not worth it. See if you can score a single bottle.
