Its initial sweetness is, apparently, "of roasted and vinous notes with a subtle bitter aftertaste". Strong fruitiness, often with "banana notes" standing out, is derived from Old Peculier’s fermentation process.

Bottle (50cl): Dark brown, clear, creamy tan head. Creamy roasted malt. Dense with green fruit. Coffee and ash. Curious with layers. Lots of fruit. Subtle hops. Moderately sweet with medium bitterness balance by the sweetness and weight. Fresh but not sour. Medium to full bodied. Good length. Creamy. Balanced. Nice beer.

Served in a snifter from a 500ml bottle. Pours dark ruby-brown with a medium light tan head. Aroma is of dark fruit, molasses, bread, malts with a faint hint of alcohol. The taste follows the nose very closely with dark fruit, malt, caramel and bready notes. Medium body with medium carbonation, nicely balanced bitter-sweet finish. Very nice old ale!

50cl bottle. Pours dark reddish brown with one finger of creamy light beige head. Aroma is sweetish with dark fruits, berries, some vinous notes, light nuttiness. Taste is similar, less sweet and with some roasted malts, nice fruitiness again. Medium body, light carbonation, light final vegetal bitterness.

Pours dark red with light beige head. Aroma is sweet, liqueur, raisin, strong caramel, some dust, old furniture. Taste is following, some rum, sweetness and crispy bread notes. Rather low carbonisation. Very good beer!

Pours clear dark brown, lots of tan head. Aroma is musty, winey. Medium body. Flavors of rasins, overripe banana, port. I can see why people would like this. It’s not for me.

Originally rated on 7/2/08. Well whoever named this one certainly hit the nail on the head. It poured a dark amber hued body with a thin tan head, fair amount of lacing left. The flavor is a combo of oak, molasses, toasted nuts, and fruit, it is sweet going down but there is a touch of bitterness. A very peculiar beer indeed.

500ml bottle at home. Dark reddish colour with a good tan coloured head. Malty, slightly fruity aroma, malty flavour with soft fruity hints, and a pleasingly bitter finish. Excellent
