The taste is coffeeish, full bodied, and well hopped. Exhibits a beautiful tan head that is well retained leaving Belgian lace on the proper glass.

A dark beer’s richer taste and sour kick, scotch, malty, and bitter. Thanks Radek for sharing and OKBeer for sending. darkerdabetter (255), Michigan, USA

Good looking with a fruity nose, nutty and slightly sweet, with the right amount of bitterness. I’ll drink it again. Dextolen (151), Michigan, USA

The head left quickly with no lacing. Smelled very malty with a hint of molasses. The taste is very um...well you know. I get some caramel, pine, smokiness, coffee, even a bit of citrusy fruit. It goes down smooth, almost oily and leaves a hint of bitter taste in your mouth. I like it. brberry (16), USA

Peculiar (living up to its name) sweet flavor, definitely taste the alcohol. A very dark color, almost porterish, hints of red when you hold it up to the light. All in all a surprisingly good buy, likely to try it again Hendo (110), Sint Anthonis, Netherlands

Did I say I love this beer? :) CrazyJames (6), Middlesbrough, England does not count | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 18, 2005 Updated: Aug 20, 2005The first beer I have rated on this. I enjoy drinking this legendary old ale. It’s similar to the north-eastern style bitters I like, in that it’s dark and heavy with a red tinge, although it’s a lot more fruity (tarty blackberrys or raisins). It has got a ’peculier’ traditional taste, reminds me of a witches potion or something like that. The aroma is probably malty and roasted, palate probably full bodied with an oily texture. Low carbonation, even for an ale. Bitter-sweet(!), really good strong beer. guzluka (7), Leicestershire, England does not count | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 24, 2009 Good beer and one I often return to. Dark and full bodied with underlying subtle cheesy notes which i’d say it would be rather good with. From the beers in the uk that are readily available its one of the best.
