Commercial Description:
Bottle; Pasteurised.
Its initial sweetness is, apparently, "of roasted and vinous notes with a subtle bitter aftertaste". Strong fruitiness, often with "banana notes" standing out, is derived from Old Peculier’s fermentation process.

Very robust nose, and a very complex flavor. Beutiful to look at too. Very much a classic old English strong ale. Rather thin but well rounded.

I was very surprised by this, I was expecting a rather normal beer, but this was a great brew. I don’t remeber the exact flavors of it but it was very smooth and fairly well priced.

Rich sweet aroma of chocolate and oak. Dark brown with red tint. Light caramel head and lacing. DELICIOUS. Slightly smoky flavour, fruity notes. Could drink this right out of the pitcher or bring a chair and drink at the liquor store cooler.

poured a dark amber almost black at some angles with a bone white head. A hoppy taste mix with a light malty flavour and dry after taste.

Purchased in a bar in Houston and served way too cold. More balanced towards malt and fruity, enjoyable and I would have an other. Page 451 of Michael Jackson’s Great Beer Guide and only 240 of his Classic 500 Brews to go. Had this recently at the brewery, after and tour by Simon Theakston, while talking to the cooper that made the barrel that it was served out of......priceless.

dark deep ruby brown in color. foam deminishes to a healthy thin blanket. smells like raisin bread. gentle carbonation provides a soft mouthfeel. well integrated flavors of apple, prune, nutty malt and brown sugar. musty. somewhat juicy. bitterness is laid back yet definitive. there’s a foodiness to this fresh old world ale. finishes dry. it’s been a long time since i had one and i don’t remember it being this enjoyable. excellent.
