2.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle purchased 2009. Figure this has been breathing my cellar’s summer warmth and winter chill enough. Deep brown color, but somehow clean, fizzes like a soda pop. Smell of kilned malts, a but of plum, and somehow alcoholic. Nothing off, which is always the risk. First thing that hits the tongue, though, is a very thin mouthfeel. Not that it’s a weak beer, but it just seems there’s not enough flavor to go around. Still has some fizz to it, so not like it’s a cask pour. Mine had plenty of dregs or yeast at the bottom, which I swirled in, and it picked up the flavor a bit. But this one just left me feeling that for its reputation, it should be better. Maybe a newer bottle will be considered at a future date.

Das Bier hat eine klare dunkel rötlichbraune Farbe und eine schöne beige Schaumkrone. Geruch karamellig, leicht schokoladig, dunkle Früchte, trocken. Geschmack schokoladig, Karamell, trocken, schwach hopfig, lecker!

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A little bit oaky and tannin, a little bit roasty malt and a little bit boozy. I feel this needed a little bit more of everything to blow me away! But as it is, its tasty well made and enjoyable. Better as it warms up. A good one to stock in the fridge for a bit of comfort

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a clear, very dark rust colour with faint offwhite head. Aromas of sweet malts, honey, molasses, cherries, and a touch of alcohol. Going by aroma this will be cloyingly sweet... While not completely wrong, it’s much dryer than the aroma leads to believe. Very fruity: cherries, bananas, raspberries. A slight breadyness comes in before returning to dark berries all the way through the long finish. Lightish body with a slick mouthfeel.

500ml bottle. Clear, ruby red glowing mahogany colour with average thick, creamy, fairlly lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Condensed fruity aroma, notes of red berries, cherries, jelly, cautious hints of milk chocolate. Taste is slightly sweet fruity, notes of red berries, cherries, a touch of banana; slightly vinous finish with a mildly dry, woody touch. Super soft palate, light, hovering body. Very gentle and highly sophisticated.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
An old favourite. 500ml bottle pours a clear, deep, red brown with a good beige head. Sweet malt nose, slightly metallic, banana note and vegetable note. Taste, roasted malts a bit of coffee, banana follows through to the taste along with some dark fruits and some nuttiness. Bit of bitterness to finish. More carbonation than I had remembered and a nice rounded medium body. It’s still good.
