Abv reduced from 5.7 to 5.6 in 2010.
Its initial sweetness is, apparently, "of roasted and vinous notes with a subtle bitter aftertaste". Strong fruitiness, often with "banana notes" standing out, is derived from Old Peculier’s fermentation process.

Bottle purchased 2009. Figure this has been breathing my cellar’s summer warmth and winter chill enough. Deep brown color, but somehow clean, fizzes like a soda pop. Smell of kilned malts, a but of plum, and somehow alcoholic. Nothing off, which is always the risk. First thing that hits the tongue, though, is a very thin mouthfeel. Not that it’s a weak beer, but it just seems there’s not enough flavor to go around. Still has some fizz to it, so not like it’s a cask pour. Mine had plenty of dregs or yeast at the bottom, which I swirled in, and it picked up the flavor a bit. But this one just left me feeling that for its reputation, it should be better. Maybe a newer bottle will be considered at a future date.

Cerveja tipo "Old Ale". Pra quem gosta de torrefação, porém mais suave e doce que uma Porter. Creme castanho escuro breve. Fica uma pequena camada ao longo da degustação. Líquido marrom escuro. Opaco. Aroma de malte torrado e de frutas vermelhas. Doce. Sabor realçado do torrado. Suave. Lúpulo discreto. Também aparecem frutas vermelhas. Final persistente. Amargo.

(Keg at Hilpeä Hauki, 20140920) The beer poured dark brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had malts, caramel, earth and grass. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, caramel, chocolate, grass, earth and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty and bitter. A nice malty English brew. Too fizzy.

Tap@blackdoor. Dark brown. Real interesting aroma. Dark bready malts, some puke, apple seeds, vinous notes.. The weirdest is the pukey notes, which makes me, in a very perverse manner, sniff it just the more. Med bodied, has bitters, intensity. Some wood, vinous things. Old ale dark maltyness, light phenols. Glad to have got just a sampler, would be hard to finish a pint of this stuff. I’m wondering wether something’s wrong with this pull.

Very subtle aroma. Lovely dark deep amber colour. Slightly chocolatey in rare with caramel undertones. Quite punchy. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Very classic old ale, ultra-traditional, with a sticky, beige, dense head and dark copper colour; sweet malts in the nose, brambleberry, pear, banana, chocolate; very rich malty taste, smooth with thinnish mouthfeel, subtle roasted bitterness, complex fruitiness and long herbal hop bitterness in the finish. I enjoyed this very much, this truly deserves its name and fame.

dark brown with a dirty brown head, malty caramel aroma, similar flavours with a slightly bitter sweetish dry aftertaste, goes down well

Very nice indeed. Medium brown color, nice malty caramel smell with some bread notes. Palate is similar. Quite smooth and English, a lovely beer with lunch. Cheers!

500 ml bottle from some supermarket in Estonia. Pours sort of reddish brown, very small head, little carbonation. Aroma is mainly caramel sweet, has some berry wine notes and candy. Taste is also quite sweet although there is also fair amount of hop bitterness, coming out in the front and also in the aftertaste. I don’t really enjoy that caramel candy sweetness that lies over everything as a blanket. I guess this is not a bad beer but somehow I fail to understand it’s beauty. Dry and bitter aftertaste, that is good.
