Its initial sweetness is, apparently, "of roasted and vinous notes with a subtle bitter aftertaste". Strong fruitiness, often with "banana notes" standing out, is derived from Old Peculier’s fermentation process.

Bottle purchased 2009. Figure this has been breathing my cellar’s summer warmth and winter chill enough. Deep brown color, but somehow clean, fizzes like a soda pop. Smell of kilned malts, a but of plum, and somehow alcoholic. Nothing off, which is always the risk. First thing that hits the tongue, though, is a very thin mouthfeel. Not that it’s a weak beer, but it just seems there’s not enough flavor to go around. Still has some fizz to it, so not like it’s a cask pour. Mine had plenty of dregs or yeast at the bottom, which I swirled in, and it picked up the flavor a bit. But this one just left me feeling that for its reputation, it should be better. Maybe a newer bottle will be considered at a future date.

Dark brown, ruby spark in the light. Thick and stable beige head. Aroma dark malt, caramel, roastiness, red wine and lemon zest. Palate smooth and balanced. Taste lively fruity, bit of chocolate and prunes. Finish dry and hoppy. Quite good one.

330ml bottle in Derby. I love this beer. Nice malt character - mild caramel and light roast. Definite english fruity ale character. Finsihes dry with a nice slight bitter end.

Deep dark chestnut color almost balck with brown foam. Aroma, malty, dark, bread, weak. Palete, Medium/heavy, full body beer with smooth, dark finish. Taste mainly of malt, roasted malt and nothing else much to it. Overall, nice heavy but easy going beer that is very enjoyable and simple but good, definatly worth a try.
