Its initial sweetness is, apparently, "of roasted and vinous notes with a subtle bitter aftertaste". Strong fruitiness, often with "banana notes" standing out, is derived from Old Peculierís fermentation process.

Bottle purchased 2009. Figure this has been breathing my cellarís summer warmth and winter chill enough. Deep brown color, but somehow clean, fizzes like a soda pop. Smell of kilned malts, a but of plum, and somehow alcoholic. Nothing off, which is always the risk. First thing that hits the tongue, though, is a very thin mouthfeel. Not that itís a weak beer, but it just seems thereís not enough flavor to go around. Still has some fizz to it, so not like itís a cask pour. Mine had plenty of dregs or yeast at the bottom, which I swirled in, and it picked up the flavor a bit. But this one just left me feeling that for its reputation, it should be better. Maybe a newer bottle will be considered at a future date.

Pours a lovely dark shade with a hint of red. Aroma I struggled to find anything except a vague whiff of coffee, taste however was very pleasant, strong malty yet sweet flavours combining perfectly together leaving a lovely bitter aftertaste, lots of great roasted flavours involved, a good buy!

Bottle, 50 cl, Au comptoir de la biŤre, Callian (83). Overall very nice ale: smooth yet convincing. Pleasant mouthfeel, mild bitter finish. To me, ABV should not be higher: well balanced in all respects.

Bottle. Pouts dark nut brown, with slight lacing. Hint of roast coffee, banana notes, licorice, peach. Interesting fruity notes for such a malty character too! Sweet, bready finish - perhaps a touch thin. Really nice ale!

500ml bottle BB 28/2/2017 Sweet spicy aroma. Pours dark brown with cream head. Mild bitterness with minor residual malty aftertaste but thatís about it. I was expecting a lot more body and but what i got was a very thin finish. Disappointing.

This beer really reminds me of westmalleís trappist dubble. Some metallic taste in here but otherwise quite good, or not bad, perhaps somewhere between.

Et fint skum, der som tidligere anmeldelse kunne minde lidt om hvidt-Ýl. Middel humlet.

Nut brown ale typical smell, head disappears quickly, nice brown towards red colour. Low to medium carbonation, fizzy type. Not too dry, citrus, leather, not too much is going on. Some bitter aftertaste. Bottom line, a bit flat, but I like the sour twist. Nice 10 word crime novel on the back side of the bottle :) Grade explanation: It is a nut brown ale, if you like this type it could be interesting. I donít like this type of beer and therefore a low grade.

Bottle from Morrisons, Birtley, Gateshead. A dark brown, almost black beer with a ruby tinge and a creamy head f white foam. It has a chocolaty, nutty and currant flavour, with gentle burnt toffee and plum notes with a bitter oak finish. Very good.
