For a 5.6% this is a pleasant beer. Initial sweetness indeed, followed by coffee, a hint of banana and then earthy roasty stuff..firm head, good dark ruby color. Old Peculier im gonna finish.. ;-) Sigmund (2344), Hafrsfjord, Norway

Very dark reddish brown colour, big beige head. Nice aroma of malts (some of them apparently lightly roasted), vinous notes, dark fruits and berries. The flavour is rich and malty with just a mild roastiness, perfectly balanced by fruity hops with berry notes. Not an extreme beer in any way, other than being "extremely good". msante79 (894), Mount Prospect, Illinois, USA

Pours dark ruby reddish brown with thick tan head. Aroma is dark fruits, toffee, toasted and caramel malts, and a hint of red wine. Flavor is rather dull compared to aroma. Flavors are toffee, caramel, malt, cherry, and dark fruit. Mouthfeel is a little watery but creamy. Weird. Drinkable though. rphills123 (7), Ohio, USA does not count | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 12, 2009 One of my favorites from the beginning. Pours a dark red/brown with a good cream head even from a bottle. Malty as I like, with some toffee. The end is a bit dry but you realize youre drinking a good english ale. I always enjoy this one.
