COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Pasteurised.
First brewed in the 1980s.
This is our premium strength bitter, ruby coloured with a rich flavour and full body. The balance between bitterness and fruitiness from the Bramling Cross and Fuggle hops used give XB the distinctively complex aroma, making it the beer to savour.

GoufCustom (805) - HONG KONG - MAY 12, 2014

500 ml bottle bought at Wellcome Superstore in Sheung Shui.

Clear copper brown colour; Near zero head and residual soapy white foam which faded in 5 seconds; No lacing and zero carbonation; Slightly fragrant and sweet aroma of amber malt, with fairly light plum and dark fruits, light caramel and toffee, light sugar, hints of cardboard, very light mustiness and faint grass; Mid to light sweet taste of light malt, with Cola, shades of red fruits, molasses notes, bread, light biscuits, faint lemon and hints of bitter grassy hops; Light body, watery palate; Mouth feel is very light and easy going Bitter with traits of dark lager-like sweet maltyness. Heavily thinned by wheats, its taste is mostly just Cola and faint red fruits. Light bread make up the rest, as lack of carbo makes this one like a flat tire… Hoppiness is faint grass nose, light lemon and hint of grass in taste. Bitterness is bare minimal for mostly thin-malty finish; Slightly dry after taste, very easy to mouth.

Comments: This one is nearly devoid of carbonation, so the overall taste is flat and uninspiring. Imagine some good dose of CO2 can revitalize this brew, which should have been lively and fun to enjoy. Oh well, I drink to forget.

Bottle pour at home. I actually like this one a lot. A lot of bread in the nose and flavor. Long lasting bold bread finish. A little roasted caramel too. Didn’t know what to expect on this one, and I am very impressed.

Lovely aroma to this, really full though the initial taste not good enough to be excellent. Nice aroma too. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

→ sehr leckeres Bier – fantastisch mild-weich! Sehr zu empfehlen! --> 13+12+12+12

Tipica bitter inglese, con qualche difettuccio. Amaro un po’ smorzato e in generale di poco carattere, gusto poco complesso con qualche strascico fruttato appena percettibile, corpo leggero. Passabile, ma niente di rilevante.

Bottle courtesy of Max, at Andys. Pours a light amber brown body with not much lacing or head. Aroma is malt, bread, light fruit, spice and a touch of hop. Mouthfeel is medium to thin, somewhat dull with notes of spicy bread, bland fruit, malt? barley? Not terrible, just dull.

Somewhat sweet aroma with bread, caramel, and dark fruit. Flavor starts sweet and mild. Watery finish with some bittering hops. Nothing earth shattering but decent enough.
