COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Pasteurised.
First brewed in the 1980s.
This is our premium strength bitter, ruby coloured with a rich flavour and full body. The balance between bitterness and fruitiness from the Bramling Cross and Fuggle hops used give XB the distinctively complex aroma, making it the beer to savour.

500ml bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours dark amber with a light tan head. Aromas are sweet malt and raisins. The taste is toffee and malty up front with some mild lingering bitterness on the finish. Creamy mouthfeel, but lacks the creaminess in would expect on draught. Overall, one of the better bottled English bitters.

Bottle. Amber with a small off white head. Modest aroma of caramel, nuts and flowers; some pears and berries. Slightly oily but pretty thin and lifeless. Sweet malty/ fruity beer with hints of flowers and spices. Malts threaten to intrigue but then seem a bit stale. Disappointing in the way that bottled bitters all too often are.

500ml bottle. Pours a clear copper brown, with a large off-white head, which lasts quite well, leaving good lace. The nose is classic bitter - slightly oily pine hops, with a touch of sweet citrus and some buttered toast notes. Quite strong pine hops to start, with a hint of lemon and sweet orange coming in. This moves on to a rich, toasty malt body and a lingering floral finish. A decent bitter, and a good session ale.
