Blond color. Some malt aroma. Sweetish malt flavor, with some cereals; correct bitterness. Simple.

Tap@LaCapsuleLille. as Pax Romana. Light buttery aroma with malts. Pale yellow, white head, good lace. As in the aroma some butter in the flavour as well, malty, sweet, light bitter.

Bottled 250ml. -as Pax Romana Biere de Luxe. Courtesy of and shared with Marko (thanks!).
Golden coloured, medium sized white head that went away slowly, dusty herbal nose. Honeyish malty, herbal hoppy and weak fruity with dry bitter finish. Not bad at all.

"Thellier Pax Romana Bière de Luxe", from the Abbaye des Saveurs in Lille.
Poured a slightly yellowish golden body with a big whtie head supported by lively carbonation. Spicy herbal dusty hoppy nose, maybe.. rosemary? Dunno. Honeyish sweetish malt, dry herbal notes going lemony. Some yeasty and metallic notes. More complex than it has any right to be, which obviously doesn’t make it bad. The distribution of this puzzles me. Usually breweries market a pale lager to support themselves, the distribution of this is cleary way more limited than the other Thellier beers. Ah well.

Yes, I have indeed drank this "Bière de Luxe", as mentioned on the Artisanpress.com site, but is conspiciously absent on the yves.bou site. But my label is pretty different from the one on Woods&Rigley - which is probably to be explained by the fact that my bottle was purchased on 27/09/1979... So the description has to be taken with some distance - then again, an entered beer with no ratings is even sillier. Straw-coloured, clear beer with a typical small transparant head, characteristic for aged beer. Aromatic, portlike nose, spicey, rosewater and old oaken vats. Great, aromatic taste that has real (old) lambic-like nottions. Here more (dry) sherry than portwine. This is a simple ale with a great extra something. Hay-like flavours, dried spices. Flat as a pancake, but somehow, not tired - but of course, it’s not strong or refreshing. I cannot help but like this. Anyhow, Theillier is an old family brewery with a fine tradition.
