iowaherkeye (1308), Back in Iowa City!, Iowa, USA Dec 18, 2007 12/10/07--on tap at the brew pub. Hazy orange red with a 1/2 finger off-white head, low retention--served too damn cold in a brandy snifter. Aroma of Belgian yeast, raisins, figs, caramel, and some candi sugar--pretty sweet. Flavor was Belgian yeast, dark fruits again, and spicy alcohol. Lots of alcohol burn despite it’s claims of 6.2%. It isn’t as sweet as the aroma, but it’s still pretty sweet. Light tingly carbonation with a full body. This doesn’t seem fruity enough for a dubbel, but would be more apt to fit in the Belgian strong or Belgian brown ale. pepsican (509), coralville, Iowa, USA Nov 10, 2007 Updated: Jan 6, 2008Draft at third base. Poured murky brown with just a little head. Nose dominated by bananas and fruit. Taste was about the same, but lacking any sort of dominating flavor. Pretty thick on the palate, strong finish. This beer is not 6%, I’d place a rather large bet on that. General_Gao (2238), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Nov 8, 2007 Draft at the brewpub. Served in a tulip glass. Poured a cloudy brown color. Head was thin and off white. Aroma was of clove, subdued banana, white wine, and light apple cider. Slightly sweet on the tongue and medium bodied. Apple cider was the most prominent flavor with clove, a dash of brown sugar, and alcohol rounding things out. I could hardly believe this was only 6%. Seemed stronger. Overall this was a very good beer.
