2011 vintage (11/07/11). Pours a very, very dark red with little wisps of foam that cling to the glass. Super mellow aroma. Not faint, just, you know, mellow. Herbal... savory/sweet... something and then Bang! Ginger snaps. That’s the aroma. Also dried fruits: currants, cranberries. Cinnamon. Aromas are very reminiscent of Thanksgiving or Christmas. Warming, calming, comforting. I could smell this all night. But let’s move on to the flavor. Sherry/oxidation, but very much in balance and not at all outside of a desirable level or expectation. Sweet, dark fruits like fig and dates. Chocolate. Quite a restrained bitterness. Balance is sweet. The finish lingers with slightly burnt oatmeal raisin cookie notes. This has aged superbly.

Aromas of dark fruits, plums, apricots, molasses, tangerine, burnt sugar, burnt caramel and liquid malt extract. Appears a dark amber color with a thin white foam. Taste is incredibly forward to the style with dark fruits, plums, apricots, molasses, brown sugar, maple, toffee and burnt sugar. Finishes with no booze and a large sugary sweet date, molasses, and caramelize sugar. Overall, really nice barley wine to the style, big sweetness and sugar to the style. A rating.

Deep amber/garnet with a tight tan head and viscous lacing. Rich dark fruit aromas accompanied by alcohol - sherry - and brown bread and baked apple. Big caramel sweetness up front, with ripe fruit and a touch of chocolate syrup. Full body, syrupy mouthfeel, gentle carbonation, warming alcohol throughout and a lingering fruit sweetness in the end.

Draft sample at Cincinnati Beerfest 2015 pour dark copper with thin tan head. Nose sweet malt, licorice, dank and earthy. Taste moderate bitter up front, then toffee and dank. Light bitter finish. A bit overpowered by the other beers I sampled this day.

Pours an dark orang’ish brown with creamy 1 finger white head. Head dissipates pretty quickly. Aroma - toffee, caramel, dried fruits, a little bit of an almost bourbon barrel note with vanilla and mild spices. Taste - malt, dark malts, med roast coffee. Moderately thick on the palate with a nice warming across the back of the throat. Bottle is from Sept. 2013. It’s aged very nicely.

Smells great, tons of caramel, soy sauce, sticky toffee. Hazy brown color with a foamy brown head. Tastes great, upfront sweet and sour characteristics, finishes with candi sugar and intense earthy bitterness. Long finish with a hint of molasses at the end. Not super to my taste but very good beer nonetheless. Thick bodied, average carbonation.

Bottle to glass. Pours a medium nut brown color with a light tan head. Aroma is molasses, dark fruits, port. Flavor is boozy, dark fruits, raisin. Thick oily creamy body with a lingering alcohol burn. Decent barley wine, but I think I’m starting to get spoiled with all that barrel aged stuff out there.
