Yum. Murky dark amber in color, smell and taste is caramel, dark fruit and raisins. The 10+% ABV is barely noticeable, really good ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: MAY 25, 2014 Pretty new bottle, I think. Smells great. Definitely the aroma of a barley wine. Kind of fruity smelling. Taste is sweet, rich, decadent. A little bitterness. I’m wishing for slightly more depth of flavor and thicker body, but that’s nitpicking. Great beer! Edit: Just found out you can look up the batch # on the Bell’s website from Ray, who traded this to me. The bottle is a 2009.

2010 Vintage, huge aroma of wine and jam, dark brown with some sediment. Massive flavour, brandy, notes of chocolate, full bodied and coats your mouth. Complex sugars leave a rich sweetness that builds each sip, with a mellow hop background. Warms you slightly, but there is no burn, this is a piece of fine art in the beer world. Leaves your lips a bit a sticky, world class. Tingles your tongue the whole time, even after you swallow it lingers.

2012 bottle. This has lightened up and mellowed out over time. Raisins, must, brandy, sweet malt aromas. Light mouthfeel and still has good carbonation for a Barleywine. Taste is sweet prunes, tawny port, burnt sugars, toasted cinnamon. Very good and the age is nice.

12 ounce bottle. Packaged on 08/07/13. Paid $3.25. Cloudy brown color with lots of floating stuff inside. Small beige head disappeared quickly. Rich dark toffee malt aroma with notes of stewed plums. Bittersweet treacle-like roasted malt flavor has an intense bitter hop backdrop. Lot’s of bold flavors here, including dried figs, burnt raisins, bourbon and resiny hops. Alcohol presence is well hidden. This is a wonderful barley wine that should only improve with age.

Bottle pour. Thanks Frankie. Dark brown pour with a sweet, boozy aroma. This beer doesn’t taste nearly as strong as it smells or looks. Very smooth. Amazing roasted flavor. Has the aged beer feel, without the boozy side. Awesome beer.

Single bottle from August 2013. Very sweet and malty aroma - figs, gapes, caramel. Pours a dark mahogany with a small tan head. Very sweet at first, then a big hit of brandy-style alcohol and a slightly hoppy finish. Slick mouthfeel. Would be interested in seeing the difference after another year or so of cellaring.

12 oz bottled 2 years ago, purchased at John’s Grocery ($3.49) and poured into a snifter at home. Dark brown appearance with a small, light brown head, minimal lacing. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, dark malts, earthy hops, vanilla, fruity esters, toffee and light alcohol. Similar flavor, rich, complex, bittersweet, lingering finish. Full body, creamy and smooth, nice texture. One of the best barley wines I have ever had.

Wow. Brown with ruby tones and a tan head. Aroma of roast malt and caramel. Flavor follws nose but ends with an astringent bite. Great beer.
