3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle as shown. Pours a cloudy brown with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is strong oak, vanilla, and candy sugar. Medium mouthfeel with sweet vanilla, light roast, oak, wood, and light boozy finish, very good.

Sweet fruity, caramels and toffees, hints of cocoa, very much an English BW or Old Ale. Delicious and hella drinkable.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Opaque medium brown with a small head. Sweet aromas of dark fruits, raisins, bread, with a touch of hops. Flavour is rich dark fruits balanced with a bit of citrus hops. Fabulous barley wine.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Has a sweet, spicy, complex aroma. More hops in the scent than most barleywines/old ales I have had. Caramel and some booze in the aroma. Iím getting some citrus as well. Pours a great dark ruby color with a thin white head; moderate lacing on the glass - just beautiful. Taste is caramel/butterscotch at first, malt sweetness second, slight booze third and piney hop bitterness fourth. Palate is slick with more carbonation than I was expecting (a great surprise for me). Aftertaste is intense at first but fades wonderfully, faintly present at the time of your next sip, no matter when that is. Says Old Ale on the bottle, RB classifies it as a barleywine - personally, I think itís an Old Ale, either way, itís great. Adding to its appeal is that you can buy a 6-pack of this 10% ABV beer. I donít know of any other beers that offer that except Expedition Stout - maybe itís a Bells thing. This lets you drink 4 and cellar 2 for later. Go buy this right now.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
12oz bottle. Bottle dated 10/12/12. Pours a clear rich mahogany color, with a medium bubbly head, seems to have held up well over the last 1.5 years. Aroma is just superb, quite balanced, and appetizing, lots of bread and rich malts. Taste matches aroma, light at first, then builds into a symphony of taste. Palate doesnít let you off easy, but itís not too bitter, either. This is an example of why I love barley wine.

Yum. Murky dark amber in color, smell and taste is caramel, dark fruit and raisins. The 10+% ABV is barely noticeable, really good

UPDATED: MAY 25, 2014 Pretty new bottle, I think. Smells great. Definitely the aroma of a barley wine. Kind of fruity smelling. Taste is sweet, rich, decadent. A little bitterness. Iím wishing for slightly more depth of flavor and thicker body, but thatís nitpicking. Great beer! Edit: Just found out you can look up the batch # on the Bellís website from Ray, who traded this to me. The bottle is a 2009.

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
2010 Vintage, huge aroma of wine and jam, dark brown with some sediment. Massive flavour, brandy, notes of chocolate, full bodied and coats your mouth. Complex sugars leave a rich sweetness that builds each sip, with a mellow hop background. Warms you slightly, but there is no burn, this is a piece of fine art in the beer world. Leaves your lips a bit a sticky, world class. Tingles your tongue the whole time, even after you swallow it lingers.
