The rich darkness is not excessive as is sometimes seen in other craft iterations. A medium high hop flavor and aroma befits this style. The caramel and roasted malt flavors and aromas are enhanced with a well-controlled fruitiness.

Bottle. Dark brown pour. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, caramel, and malt. Taste is slightly bitter like dark chocolate and French roast coffee. Very good.

Smell is mostly roasted malt flavors and characteristics and not so much in terms of hops. Has a pretty bitter finish, but I feel like the malt used is far too roasty. Wish this had more hop flavor and characteristics.

Bottled. A red-brown beer with a lazing brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, and hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, caramel, and hops, leading to a bitter finish. Thanks yespr for sharing.

12 oz bottle pours a dark brown with small beige head and little lacing. Aroma has roasted malts, citrus, pine caramel, and touches of chocolate and coffee. Taste is initially bitter, with some sweet caramel malts in a brief middle, with a dry finish. Not as hoppy as most black IPAs. Body is medium with good carbonation. Mouthfeel is oily but lively. A decent and balanced black IPA

Tap - good size foamy head, almost black color with a slight red hue, roasted malt aroma and flavor, fair hope - would have liked more hops and less roastiness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz. bottle. Pours a thick, well retained, light beige head, with some lacing, over a clear brown (SRM 30) body.....nose is heavy chocolate, cocoa, lighter coffee, hints of pine, citrus.....taste is chocolate, light toffee/caramel, pine, light citrus, finishing with moderate, lingering bitterness......mouth feel medium, slightly astringent, carbonation makes a medium tingle. This is a nicely balanced, clean finishing Black IPA. It does not have the depth of complexity nor the powerful aromas and flavors often found in the style, but it is a nice representative.
