3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
hazy golden golour with big white head that dissapears quite quick. there’s a strange flavour in the aroma, I can’t really put my finger on what it is but it gives the smell a strange ’accent’. medium to light body, no specific flavours that stand out. not my favorite style of beer I guess.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Brasserie Thiriez - Etoile du Nord 5.5% bottle at Cave a Bulle. I heard this is a historically significant beer in France as it was the first truly hoppy beer and is a saison at that. A golden brass color with a huge thick fluffy head. Yeasty hay, flour, spices & mild hoppiness in the nose. The taste is bready, saison spices and herbal hops.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
From a bottle: cloudy with a chocolate-colored yeast that sits atop wonderful, silky foam. A doughy and slightly bitter, but pleasant, aroma. Lightly sweet to begin with followed by medium bitterness and ending in some astringency.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
On draft in various estaminets around French Flanders and 75 cl bottles brought back from Produits du Nord in Cassel to home. This has become a world classic beer. In a world overwhelmed with yet another hoppy pale ale that is trying to be American, this one manages a perfect balance of hopping against a just right malt body. I can only assume that the lower rates are suffering from poor cold chains and distribution abroad. This is a marvellous beer.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Robe orangée avec un fine mousse qui disparait vite. Au nez c’est houblonné, et dès la première gorgée, l’amertume est vive. Un peu trop d’ailleurs, masquant les autres saveurs que la bière pouvait offrir.
